The Department of Econometrics reports to the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Karadeniz Technical University. It provides education with undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. The curriculum in the Department of Econometrics aims to train mathematical economists who can solve economic problems using economic theory and mathematical and statistical techniques. The curriculum includes courses such as statistics, econometrics, mathematics, micro and macroeconomics, international economics, and business administration. In addition to must courses, elective courses are also offered to students. Thus, students in the Department of Econometrics will be able to define and solve econometric problems through interdisciplinary studies, both individually and in groups.
Our students take many must and elective courses offered by expert academic staff. Economics courses are offered mostly in the first two years of the undergraduate program. Especially in the third year of the undergraduate program, mostly theoretical and applied courses in econometrics, statistics, and operations research are included in the curriculum.
Our department's students have the opportunity to study at other universities for certain periods of time within the scope of national and international student exchange programs (Farabi, Erasmus).
Our department's graduates can be employed for application in research units of the public or private sector. They can work at the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), the Capital Markets Board (SPK), Borsa Istanbul (BIST), all banks, insurance and research companies.
The Department of Econometrics at Karadeniz Technical University is divided into two programs: Statistics and Operations Research. The Statistics program covers both theoretical and applied statistics and econometrics, while the Operations Research covers linear and nonlinear programming, decision-making techniques, and production areas. The graduate diploma programs offered by our department's faculty members are Econometrics (Master's Program with a Thesis) and Econometrics (Doctoral Program).
