History and Introduction

The Department of Economics started its education activities within the Trabzon Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences (TİTİA) on December 10, 1979. TİTİA was transformed into the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (İİBF) on July 20, 1982. Since then, it has been continuing its existence under the roof of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (İİBF). In addition to undergraduate education, the master's program started on 28.02.1984, and the doctoral program started on 16.11.1988. The Department of Economics includes the divisions of Economic Policy, Economic Development and International Economics, Economic History, and Economic Theory.

There are 12 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors, and 6 Research Assistants who specialize and conduct research in the divisions such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, Economic Policies, Economic Growth and Development, International Finance, Monetary Policy, Foreign Trade, History of Economic Thought and Environmental Economics.

The department provides both theoretical and practical knowledge. In this framework, while students learn economic theories, on the one hand, they are able to analyze the developments and policies implemented in the field of economics with critical and comparative approaches. For this purpose, students take basic courses such as mathematical economics, statistics, econometrics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, game theory, economic history, growth, development, international economics, and monetary theory and policy.

In addition to the core courses, there is a large pool of elective courses that can appeal to students' interests and enable interdisciplinary study. In this direction, in addition to Department Elective Courses such as Sustainable Development, Regional Economics, Economics of Innovation, European Union Economics, and Current Economics, elective courses such as History of Science, Professional Ethics, General Sociology, Protection of Personal Data, Project Management, Career Planning, Technology Addiction and Project Management from the University Elective Pool are included in the Department Course Plan.

In the Department of Economics, students from other departments, such as Business Administration, Statistics and Computer Science, Forestry Industrial Engineering, Mining Engineering, can do Double Major and Minor. Likewise, students of the Department of Economics have the opportunity to benefit from Double Major and Minor applications in other departments, such as Mining Engineering, Forest Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Statistics and Computer Science, History, and Sociology.

Within the scope of Erasmus + Exchange Programs, our students have the opportunity to study at contracted universities in European countries with Erasmus + Student Mobility for Learning and Erasmus + Student Mobility for Internship or to do an internship in a company or any related workplace abroad. In addition, within the scope of Farabi Programs, it is possible to benefit from education opportunities in higher education institutions in Türkiye for a certain period or periods.

Physical Facilities of the Department

The department uses some parts of the building built on an area of 13000 m2 belonging to the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. In addition, two fully equipped computer halls are used for education. All of the classrooms have internet connection and are designed as technology classrooms.

Working Opportunities of Graduates

Thanks to the qualified education provided at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in our department, students graduate equipped to conduct quality research and contribute to the production of knowledge in the public and private sectors. Graduates of the department have a wide range of working areas in the public and private sectors where they can work as financial advisors, experts, bankers, inspectors, controllers, auditors, and district governors. For example, they can work in public institutions such as the Turkish Statistical Institute, Capital Markets Board, Competition Authority, Universities, Central Bank, Administrative Judiciary, Court of Accounts and Ministries, and private sector areas such as banks, financial institutions, economic enterprises, insurance companies, and capital markets institutions.
