Congress Uniting Medicine and Technology: A Strong Scientific Contribution from Our Students!

Hosted by our university, the 1st National Medical Student Congress on Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence brought together academics and students from various universities across Türkiye.

Organized by 5th-year students of our Faculty of Medicine and held between April 19–21, 2025, the opening ceremony of the congress took place at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center with great participation. The event was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, President of the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK) Prof. Dr. Ahmet AYAR, Chief Physician of Farabi Hospital Prof. Dr. Celal TEKİNBAŞ, Deputy Mayor of Ortahisar Municipality Cüneyt ZORLU, Dean of our Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Sevdegül AYDIN MUNGAN, Congress Advisor and faculty member Prof. Dr. Ali CANSU, representatives of stakeholder institutions who supported the organization process, relevant academics, and 540 students from 20 universities.

“A Congress Offering Significant Opportunities” 

In his speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI emphasized that the congress was the first of its kind for both our university and the city of Trabzon, stating:  “From brain dissection practices to simulation workshops, from advanced-level training to robotic surgery applications, the congress features a wide range of content. In particular, the application platform that allows experience with the Da Vinci Robotic Surgery system provides an important opportunity to demonstrate the practical integration of technology in medicine.”

Rector Highlights the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Advancements 

“Artificial intelligence is not only transforming the field of medicine but is also one of the most powerful tools shaping the future of humanity,” said our Rector, adding: “From medical diagnostics to treatment planning, from surgical procedures to patient monitoring, AI is undoubtedly a driving force of transformation… The fact that young individuals like you, who aspire to be part of this process, have organized such a congress is a great source of hope for the future of science. This congress is not just an event, but a reflection of your determination, vision, and team spirit. As a university, we are always by our students’ side.” At the end of his speech, Rector ÇUVALCI congratulated Aylin İlayda ZORLU, the student congress president from our Faculty of Medicine, and her team for their efforts in organizing the event.

The congress featured more than 20 workshops, including participation by world-renowned neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı AYDIN, Prof. Dr. Lütfi TUNÇ, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit EROĞLU. Attendees had the chance to engage in individual hands-on practice with the Da Vinci Robotic Surgery system.
