The academic meeting titled “From Trabzon to Turkistan: History–Culture–People” and “The Geopolitics of the Turkic World: The Multipolar International Order and Strategic Cooperation,” organized in collaboration with the Parliamentary Union of the Turkic World and our University, was held at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center.

The opening program was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI; Deputy Mayor of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Yüksel GÜLAY; Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan Prof. Dr. Musa KASIMLI; Nail ÇELEBÄ°, former Member of Parliament for Trabzon during the 21st legislative term; as well as numerous academics, students, and guests.

Speaking at the opening of the event, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, stated that the Turkic world has a rich civilizational heritage shaped by its deep-rooted history, shared cultural values, and vast geography. Pointing out that Trabzon has historically served as an important center of passage and interaction connecting Anatolia with the Caucasus and the Black Sea with the interior of Asia, Prof. Dr. ÇUVALCI noted that the title “From Trabzon to Turkistan” strongly reflects this historical significance. Emphasizing that energy corridors, trade routes, and security policies are being reshaped as the multipolar international system becomes increasingly prominent, our Rector stated that universities should serve as enduring institutions of trust and cooperation that carry relations between countries beyond short-term developments.

Following the opening remarks, the event continued with two panel sessions featuring experts in their respective fields.

The first panel, titled “From Trabzon to Turkistan: History–Culture–People,” was moderated by Prof. Dr. Hikmet ÖKSÜZ, a faculty member at the KTU Faculty of Letters. During the session, Prof. Dr. Okan YEŞİLOT from Marmara University delivered a presentation titled “The Future of the Organization of Turkic States: Opportunities and Risks”; Prof. Dr. Musa KASIMLI, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, addressed “The Role of Parliamentarians in Cooperation among the Countries of the Turkic World from Past to Present”; and Prof. Dr. Ä°brahim TELLÄ°OÄžLU of Ondokuz Mayıs University presented on “Turks in the Eastern Black Sea Region.”

The second panel, titled “The Geopolitics of the Turkic World: The Multipolar International Order and Strategic Cooperation,” was moderated by Prof. Dr. Özgür TÜFEKÇÄ° of Karadeniz Technical University. During the session, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif OKUR of Yıldız Technical University addressed “The Strategic Horizon of the Turkic World: Historical Geopolitics and the New International Order”; Prof. Dr. ÇaÄŸla Gül YEÅžEVÄ° of BahçeÅŸehir University discussed “Cooperation and Diplomatic Dynamics in Central Asia”; and Prof. Dr. Mitat ÇELÄ°KPALA of Kadir Has University offered insights into “The Eurasian Security Architecture and the Strategic Position of the Turkic World.”

Throughout the panel sessions and the concluding discussions, participants emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among the countries of the Turkic world within the multipolar international system, bringing parliamentary experience and academic knowledge together on a common platform, and encouraging younger generations to take an active role in shaping a shared future. Participants also called for the development of joint projects guided by science and technology to make effective use of the opportunities presented by the current historical period.

The program concluded with a question-and-answer session, followed by the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the panelists.
