The Inauguration Ceremony for the Unit of International Health Tourism at Farabi Hospital

The Unit of International Health Tourism was inaugurated at Farabi Hospital with a ceremony held on February 9, 2024.

As a pioneering institution in the field of Health Tourism in Trabzon, and providing services to patients from all over Türkiye, especially the Black Sea Region, as well as citizens from 124 different countries including Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Saudi Arabia, our university's Farabi Hospital will continue giving health care services in this field with the newly inaugurated Unit of International Health Tourism. This unit is a product of the institution's significant efforts, extensive experience, and commitment to providing quality healthcare.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. It was attended by Trabzon Governor Aziz YILDIRIM, Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Atilla ATAMAN, Trabzon Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Mustafa ERDEM, Deputy Mufti of Trabzon Şakir ŞAHİN, Trabzon Provincial Director of National Education Hasan UYGUN, Trabzon Provincial Health Director Dr. Hakan USTA, Consul General of Georgia in Trabzon Nikoloz IASHVİLİ, Consul General of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Trabzon Erek ÇAĞATAY, Vice President of Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mehmet ÇELEBİ, and members of the press.

The opening speech of the ceremony was delivered by Prof. Dr. Celal TEKİNBAŞ, the Chief Physician of Farabi Hospital, who stated, "We are a country of tourism. Other areas of tourism are certainly important in terms of creating added value. However, Health Tourism has an important feature beyond that. We offer our capacity to those in need. Karadeniz Technical University Farabi Hospital, with its 50 years of history, accepts patients from many parts of the region and the country. People from various parts of the world, especially from neighboring countries like Georgia, come to us to solve their health problems, and we provide them with services. The International Health Tourism Unit is a department opened for them. After the patient arrives at the airport, we pick them up, bring them to our hospital, and provide accommodation. After the patient receives treatment and recovers, we send them back to their hometown."

Following him, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, took the floor and emphasized the importance of healthcare services in his speech, "We should not only consider this initiative from the perspective of Health Tourism. The satisfaction of the patients who come here, the quality service they receive, and their recommendation of the service they receive here when they return to their hometowns, leading to more people applying here, will also contribute to an intensification of Cultural Tourism. Of course, the brand value of our University, the expertise of our faculty in their fields, and our reputation as a reliable institution are crucial in this regard. We prioritize the service and quality dimensions of the work."

The opening ceremony continued with speeches from Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Atilla ATAMAN and Trabzon Governor Aziz YILDIRIM. Regarding the services to be provided in the field of Health Tourism, it was highlighted that through the Unit of International Health Tourism at our University's Farabi Hospital, evaluations of patients who apply to the hospital will be made, and the most suitable diagnosis, examinations, and treatments will be provided. It was emphasized that this unit will provide global-level healthcare, and with the comprehensive knowledge and experiences of many physicians at Farabi Hospital, personalized and most effective treatment methods will be applied to each patient.

With the issuance of the Certificate of Health Tourism Authorization in June 2021, Karadeniz Technical University Farabi Hospital has observed a significant increase in demand for services in this field. At the point where the process has been successfully managed, the opening of the 11-bed capacity Farabi Hospital International Health Tourism Unit marks a milestone. This unit, supported by the scientific research of Farabi Hospital academics, who have made significant contributions to medical education in Türkiye and are widely recognized, along with the improved infrastructure and technical equipment in the past twenty years, will also provide quality healthcare.

Following the opening speeches, the provincial protocol cut the ribbon and received detailed information about the unit.
