The March Titled "We Stand for an Independent Palestine" Was Organized by Our University

Under the leadership of our university, a march titled "We Stand for an Independent Palestine" was organized in Trabzon, bringing together higher education institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and political representatives in the face of Israeli oppression.

The march saw the active participation of our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, Avrasya University Rector Prof. Dr. Füsun TERZİOĞLU, Trabzon University Rector Prof. Dr. Emin AŞIKKUTLU, as well as academic and administrative staff from various universities, representatives of NGOs, citizens, political figures, and members of the press. It commenced in front of the Koton Store on Kahramanmaraş Avenue.

The participants marched along Kahramanmaras Street, expressing their reactions against Israel, which bombed universities, hospitals, and mosques and practiced genocide in Palestine without discriminating against women, the elderly, children, and babies, and came in front of the Atatürk Monument in Meydan Park. At the monument, after commemorating the soldiers who were martyred in the Sarıkamış Operation on December 22, 1914, on the occasion of the 109th anniversary of the operation, the participants listened to a press statement read in Turkish by our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI and in Arabic by Trabzon University Rector Prof. Dr. Emin AŞIKKUTLU.

In his statement addressing a wide audience, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI said, "The Zionist Israeli attacks, which started on October 7, 2023, have targeted the innocent people in Palestine, especially in the Gaza Strip, without making distinctions of time, place, and people, and turned into a brutal genocide intensifying every day. These attacks have deeply wounded the conscience of all of us. In this context, as academicians of Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon University, and Avrasya University, we declare that we will not remain silent in the face of Israel's inhumane attacks and treatment towards Gaza, as a necessity of our human and moral values and responsibilities. In this regard, we call on all countries, international community institutions, and organizations to urgently establish a permanent and stable peace in the region and especially in the Gaza Strip, and to fulfill the requirements of universal law and human rights. On this occasion, we extend our condolences to all our brothers who have been martyred for the just cause of Palestine, and we wish mercy from Allah to our late colleague and martyr, Prof. Dr. Sufyan TAYEH, the Rector of Gaza Islamic University, patience and condolences to their families and the entire Palestinian people, and speedy recovery to the wounded."

The march, held with intense participation, concluded after the presentation of the statement and a prayer led by Trabzon Provincial Mufti Selami AYDIN in the presence of a large crowd. The prayer was offered to all martyrs, our brothers who were martyred in Palestine, and the people of Palestine.
