KTU Faculty of Engineering Achieves a Historic First with a Nature-Indexed Publication

The Faculty of Engineering, one of the leading faculties of Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), has achieved another significant milestone. Building on its long-standing contributions to education, research and development, scientific productivity, university–industry collaboration, quality assurance, internationalization, and social impact, the Faculty has now secured the first Nature-indexed publication in KTU’s history.

The Nature Index is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious indicators of high-quality scientific research, featuring leading international journals that publish only highly original and impactful studies.

In this context, the international collaborative research article titled “Transient mantle–crust interaction restores porphyry copper–molybdenum fertility during continental collision” (Turkish title: “Restoration of porphyry copper–molybdenum mineralization through mantle–crust interaction during continental collision zones”), conducted with the participation of researchers from the Department of Geological Engineering, Dr. Hadi Shafaii Moghadam and Prof. Dr. Orhan Karslı, along with international researchers from China, Australia, Switzerland, Iran, and Spain, was published in Nature Communications Earth & Environment. This achievement marks the first KTU-affiliated publication in a Nature-indexed journal, making it a historic milestone.

This publication represents the first KTU-affiliated article to appear in a Nature-indexed journal, marking a historic achievement for both the Faculty of Engineering and Karadeniz Technical University.
