General Information |
|
The Department of Building Materials is involved with various construction and infrastructure projects within the field of Civil Engineering, including residential and commercial buildings, dams, power plants, tunnels, roads, bridges, ports, sewage systems, light rail systems, and railways. It focuses on engineering materials used for load-bearing purposes, such as cement, steel, concrete, and wood, as well as materials used for non-load-bearing purposes like water, thermal, and sound insulation. This discipline researches, develops, and provides knowledge on the selection of materials suitable for use in structures by investigating their physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. It aims to understand the strengths and weaknesses of materials under various conditions, address these weaknesses if possible, determine granulometries for mixed-use materials, establish related standards, and design and produce new materials. |
