Karadeniz Technical University, Of Faculty of Technology, was initially established in 2004 under the name Of Faculty of Technical Education by the decision of the Council of Ministers. During the establishment process, while administrative, academic, and physical structuring works were ongoing, the Higher Education Council decided to close all Faculties of Technical Education in Türkiye and establish Faculty of Technology to train engineers with high practical skills needed by the industry. In this context, the Faculty of Technology in Of was established by the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 02/11/2009 and numbered 15546.

The opening of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was discussed in the meeting of the Higher Education Executive Board on 31.12.2014, and the decision to open it was communicated by the Presidency of the Higher Education Council in the letter dated 16.01.2015 and numbered 75850160-101.0301/2291. Students were admitted to this department for the first time in the 2018-2019 academic year.
