Dr. S. Berberoglu Ç.Ü. Peyzaj Mimarlığı Bölümünde öğretim üyesi olarak çalışmaktadır. 23 yılı aşkın bir süredir çevresel izleme ve yönetimi konusunda teorik ve uygulamalı bilgi birikimine sahiptir. Dr Berberoglu uzaktan algılama ile arazi örtüsü/kullanımı çalışmalarına 1995 yılında “Optimising the remote sensing of Mediterranean land cover” isimli doktora çalışması ile Southampton Üniversitesi, İngiltere’de başlamıştır. Çalışmalarına; biyoçeşitliliğin haritalanması, değişim tespiti, hidrolojik modelleme ve biyomas tespiti gibi konularda devam etmiştir. Güncel ilgi alanı CBS ve uzaktan algılamayı kullanarak iklim değişimi altında ekosistem modellemesi ve risk analizleridir. Bu kapsamda, konumsal bilgi teknolojileri ve yaklaşımlarını kullanarak net birincil üretim tahmini, havza hidrolojisinin modellenmesi, arazi örtüsü/kullanımının geleceğe yönelik modellemesi, arazi örtüsü haritalaması, erozyon modellemesi gibi çalışmaları karar verme ve planlama süreçlerine dahil etmiştir.
Uluslararası ortaklı, Japonya RIHN (Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto), Almanya BMBF – TÜBİTAK (iki proje), AB-COST ve AB-Fp7 destekli beş uluslararası ve bir TÜBİTAK 1003 Öncelikli Alanlar projesi ile iki adet SANTEZ, dört adet Tarım Orman Bakanlığı-FAO destekli proje olmak üzere 12 projenin yürütücülüğünü yapmış, bir çok projeye de danışman ve araştırıcı olarak katılmıştır. 50 yayın SCI kapsamında olmak üzere 140’dan fazla yayını bulunmaktadır.
Dr. Berberoğlu Ç.Ü.Peyzaj Mimarlığı Uzaktan Algılama ve Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri Laboratuvarının kurucusu ve sorumlusudur. Ayrıca, Ç.Ü. Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Uzaktan Algılama ve Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri Anabilim Dalı Başkanı olarak görevine devam etmektedir.

Dr. S. Berberoglu is a lecturer in Landscape Architecture. He has 23 years of broad-based field and laboratory environmental experience required in the application of environmental monitoring and management. Dr Berberoglu started his studies on land cover/use with remote sensing in 1995 with his doctoral study titled “Optimising the remote sensing of Mediterranean land cover” at Southampton University, England. He continued his career on topics such as biodiversity mapping, change detection, hydrological modeling and biomass detection. Dr Berberoğlu is also involved in various national and international projects such as climate change, biodiversity mapping, change detection, hydrological modelling and biomass estimates. His current field of research is driving ecosystem models using geospatial technologies to understand impacts of climate change on ecosystem functions and conservation in the Mediterranean region. He has been modelling Net Primary Productivity (NPP), basin hydrology, erosion and land use/cover change. His major concern is transferring these modelling outcomes into the ecosystem based planning.
He was the coordinator of 12 projects, including five international projects with international partners, RIHN (Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto), Germany BMBF – TÜBİTAK (two projects), EU-COST and EU-Fp7 supported and one TÜBİTAK 1003 Priority Areas project, two SANTEZ, four projects supported by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry together with FAO, and participated in many projects as a consultant and researcher. He has more than 140 publications, 50 of which are within the SCI.
Dr. Berberoğlu is also the founder of the CU Landscape Architecture Remote Sensing and GIS Lab which is dedicated to providing innovative, state-of-the-art monitoring of environment using geospatial technologies (GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing). Dr. S. Berberoğlu is head of Remote Sensing and GIS department in Institute of Basic and Applied Sciences.
