Affordable housing for students (2025)

Our University supports students’ access to safe and affordable accommodation options. This support is provided through direct accommodation services offered by the University Student Guesthouse and by facilitating access to public KYK student dormitories located both on campus and throughout Trabzon.

Within our University’s official sustainability approach, access to safe, accessible, and affordable accommodation is regarded as an important component of equal educational opportunity and student well-being.

Our University Student Guesthouse

Our University operates a Student Guesthouse on the Central Kanuni Campus. The Guesthouse serves the accommodation needs of students and provides a safe on-campus lodging option.

The Guesthouse has a total of 61 guest rooms. According to 2025 records, these consist of:

  • 4 suites,
  • 17 single rooms,
  • 6 interconnected/partitioned rooms,
  • 34 double rooms.

This facility provides students with an institutional accommodation option directly operated by our University within the campus.

Student-Specific Accommodation Rates for 2025

In 2025, our University Student Guesthouse applied a student-specific accommodation tariff that was lower than the rates charged to staff.

The daily student rates in 2025 included:

  • Single room – student: TRY 400/day
  • Double room – student: TRY 800/day

This differentiated pricing provides students with a more affordable accommodation option and demonstrates the University’s effort to reduce accommodation costs for students.

KYK Dormitories Located on Campus

A significant proportion of our students benefit from public student dormitories operated by the General Directorate of Credit and Hostels (KYK) under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

As clearly stated on our University’s official Student Affairs webpage, the University does not operate its own student dormitories; instead, the student dormitories located on campus are public KYK dormitories affiliated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Applications and placement procedures for these dormitories are managed by KYK.

This distinction is important: our University supports students in accessing these public dormitories and provides institutional guidance regarding accommodation, but the dormitories themselves are not directly owned or operated by the University.

Extensive KYK Dormitory Capacity on the Kanuni Campus

Our University’s sustainability documents state that the Doğu Karadeniz Student Dormitory, located within the Central Kanuni Campus, consists of eight blocks and provides rooms for one to three students. Another KYK dormitory complex consisting of four blocks is also located on the same campus.

In addition, KYK student dormitories are available in Trabzon city centre and in the districts of Akçaabat, Yomra, Sürmene, Of, and Maçka, providing our students with access to a broad public dormitory network.

This extensive accommodation network supports students’ access to safe and affordable housing and contributes to equal access to higher education.

Supporting Access to Housing for Low-Income Students

Within our University’s sustainability approach, affordable accommodation is considered an important support mechanism, particularly for students who are economically disadvantaged and need assistance in continuing their education.

The University’s “Low-income student support” webpage explicitly states that safe and affordable dormitory options are available to meet students’ accommodation needs and that these opportunities support equal access to education.

Within the same institutional framework, students may also benefit from complementary financial support mechanisms, including meal scholarships, financial aid, and part-time employment opportunities. These measures contribute to reducing students’ overall living costs.

Institutional Guidance on Accommodation Services

Our University also provides students with direct institutional information and guidance regarding available accommodation options. The “Dormitory, Accommodation and Dining Processes” section published by the Student Affairs Department explains the status of dormitories located on campus, how students can apply for dormitory accommodation, and how they can contact the relevant KYK units.

In conclusion, our University carries out institutional practices to support students’ access to safe, healthy, and affordable accommodation, while also providing guidance and complementary support mechanisms that help reduce housing-related financial burdens and contribute to student well-being and equal access to education.
