Bottom financial quintile student support

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has established a comprehensive support mechanism to promote “SDG-1: No Poverty” and to safeguard the social and academic needs of target groups by meeting their essential requirements. Through the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports, the Karadeniz University Development Foundation (KÜVAK), the Career Development Application and Research Center, and external funding sources, the university provides scholarships and financial assistance to students in need who maintain their academic performance. In addition, training programs, internships, and job placement services are offered to facilitate access to decent work opportunities and to support career development.

Department of Health, Culture, and Sports

Through programs managed by the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports, students are provided with opportunities such as “Part-Time Work” on campus, a “Meal Scholarship” to support nutrition, and a “Financial Support Scholarship” to help cover educational expenses. In addition, secure and affordable dormitory options are available within the university to meet housing needs.

Part-Time Work

KTU supports its registered students by allowing them to work in temporary jobs during their free hours outside of class, in line with their interests and skills, to gain work discipline and grow into productive individuals. This process is carried out under the KTU Part-Time Student Employment Directive . In 2024, a total of 90 students, including 80 undergraduate and 5 graduate students, benefited from this opportunity.

Meal Scholarship

KTU provides a free lunch scholarship for students. In 2024, 400 students benefited from the meal scholarship. This support helps students meet their basic nutritional needs and sustain their academic success. The scholarships are funded by the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports, with applications collected each academic year by the Scholarship and Aid Office. Eligible students, identified through socioeconomic assessment, receive one free lunch meal per day.

Karadeniz University Development Foundation (KÜVAK)

The Karadeniz University Development Foundation (KÜVAK) has been operating for nearly 40 years to support KTU’s education, research, and infrastructure development. This well-established solidarity network, created through public-private sector cooperation, provides the “KÜVAK Scholarship” to successful but financially disadvantaged students, thereby promoting equal access to education.

Scholarship applications are carried out transparently and accessibly via the KTU Information Management System (BYS). Candidates can easily apply through the KÜVAK Scholarship Application Portal. Through these programs, KÜVAK not only meets students’ financial needs but also strengthens the university’s social mission.
