At Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), training and awareness programs related to climate change risks, impacts, adaptation, and early warning systems are actively implemented. In this context, the Earthquake and Structural Health Research Center and the Landslide Research Center play a key role, particularly in disaster risk reduction and in managing the environmental impacts of climate change.
The Earthquake and Structural Health Research Center provides scientific and technical training on strengthening building resilience, earthquake preparedness, and post-disaster recovery processes, thereby raising public awareness of the adverse impacts of extreme weather events and ground movements triggered by climate change. The Landslide Research Center, on the other hand, investigates landslide risks caused by factors such as heavy rainfall and soil saturation associated with climate change, while organizing training sessions and information meetings for local communities and public institutions. Through its work on early warning systems and risk reduction methods, the center contributes to enhancing regional disaster resilience.
These activities demonstrate that KTU not only produces academic knowledge but also undertakes the mission of raising public awareness and developing local capacity.
