Our University conducts educational, awareness-raising, scientific knowledge-sharing, and applied activities for local and national communities on the protection of freshwater ecosystems, sustainable water management, efficient use of water resources, water quality, the impacts of climate change on water resources, and the conservation of aquatic biodiversity.
These activities are carried out by the relevant academic units, research centres, and expert academics of our University in cooperation with public institutions, local authorities, students, sector representatives, and various segments of society. Our University’s community outreach approach in the field of freshwater ecosystems is also explicitly defined on its official sustainability website.

Educational Activities on Water, Waste and Climate Change Resilience
In 2025, the Department of City and Regional Planning of our University organised educational and seminar activities under the title “Integrated Approaches to Environmental Sustainability: Water, Waste, and Climate Change Resilience.”
The programme addressed topics such as the sustainable management of water resources, the impacts of climate change on water systems, sanitation, environmental risks, and adaptation options.
These activities demonstrate that our University approaches water management not merely as a technical infrastructure issue, but as an integrated matter closely linked to climate change, environmental sustainability, and public health.

Natural Trout Production and the Protection of Freshwater Ecosystems
One of our University’s important contributions directly related to freshwater ecosystems is its cooperation with the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks on natural trout production, breeding, and the stocking of inland forest waters.
At an implementation meeting held in Altındere in 2025, the 2025–2026 red-spotted trout production and release programmes, together with future activities, were evaluated.
This activity represents a direct example of community and institutional outreach in terms of the protection of native freshwater species, the sustainability of inland-water ecosystems, and scientific knowledge-sharing with public institutions.
Within the scope of these activities, the training of public-sector personnel, improvement of production facilities, and applied aquaculture processes are also addressed.

Knowledge Sharing on Fisheries and Aquatic Ecosystems
In 2025, our University’s Sürmene Faculty of Marine Sciences organised various activities focusing on fisheries, aquatic ecosystems, and sustainable production.
Within this framework, nationally organised events such as the 7th Türkiye Fisheries Seminars supported knowledge exchange among academics, students, and sector representatives.
Such activities contribute to knowledge transfer between the University, society, and industry on the sustainable use of aquatic resources, aquaculture, and ecosystem conservation.

Aquatic Ecosystem Awareness for Students and Young People
Our University also carries out awareness activities aimed not only at academic and sectoral stakeholders, but also at young people and students, with a particular focus on the conservation of aquatic ecosystems.
Through seminars and educational activities organised by the Sürmene Faculty of Marine Sciences, topics such as aquatic ecosystems, the ecological importance of phytoplankton, climate change, and biodiversity are addressed.
These activities demonstrate that our University shares its scientific knowledge on aquatic ecosystems with young people and the wider community, thereby contributing to increased environmental awareness.
Our University provides educational, awareness-raising, and knowledge-sharing activities for local and national communities in the fields of freshwater ecosystems, water management, and water conservation.
The activities carried out in 2025 covered a wide range of topics including water management, water efficiency, climate change-related water risks, rainwater harvesting and reuse, efficient water use, conservation of aquatic biodiversity, natural trout production, and the protection and restoration of freshwater habitats.
