Karadeniz Technical University is implementing a comprehensive greenhouse gas reduction program to decrease carbon emissions and strengthen sustainable energy management across its campuses.
- Direct Emissions (Scope 1): The rectorate vehicle has been converted to electric, a charging station has been installed on campus, and natural gas boilers, generators, and transformers have been modernized.
- Indirect Emissions (Scope 2): Solar panels have been installed on faculty and laboratory rooftops, LED lighting has been adopted across the campus, and a composting facility producing 65 tons of organic fertilizer annually has been commissioned.
- Other Indirect Emissions (Scope 3): Waste segregation and recycling, free shuttle services, bicycle parking areas, and online thesis defenses have helped reduce emissions from transportation and travel.
Through these initiatives, KTÜ contributes to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), realizing its vision of a low-carbon and sustainable campus.
