Local biodiversity included in planning and development

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) places great importance on protecting local ecosystems and sustaining biodiversity in the planning of campus areas and the construction of new buildings. In this context, the Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning faculty members and experts prepared the campus master plan, which aims to guide the university’s physical development in harmony with the natural environment.

Within the framework of the master plan, the placement of new buildings takes into account the existing natural landscape, vegetation, and ecological balance. Priority is given to preserving green spaces, creating new green corridors, and ensuring the continuity of natural habitats. In addition, the protection of water resources, the consideration of natural drainage systems, and the adoption of climate-friendly construction principles are integrated into the planning process.

Thus, while developing its academic and administrative infrastructure, KTU acts with a sense of environmental responsibility, putting forward a sustainable campus model that protects local biodiversity. (Master Plan PDF)
