Karadeniz Technical University conducts its educational activities through 12 faculties, 6 institutes, and 8 vocational schools, offering a total of 258 active programs. Among the 5,133 courses delivered at the university, 1,240 are directly linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The distribution identified through the Course Information Catalogue and the AVESİS system clearly reflects the university’s educational approach toward sustainability.
In the SDG-based evaluation, the area with the highest number of courses is “Good Health and Well-Being”, with a total of 228 courses across all levels, making the greatest contribution. This is followed by “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” with 154 courses, “Decent Work and Economic Growth” with 153 courses, and “Life on Land” with 113 courses. The courses in these areas make significant contributions to the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.
Other prominent areas include “Sustainable Cities and Communities” with 86 courses, “Affordable and Clean Energy” with 90 courses, and “Climate Action” with 60 courses. These courses provide an important educational foundation in energy efficiency, urban planning, environmental awareness, and combating climate change.
In addition, “Zero Hunger” with 57 courses, “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” with 53 courses, and “Reduced Inequalities” with 73 courses also offer strong content. Although fewer in number, “Responsible Consumption and Production” with 7 courses and “Quality Education” with 10 courses are also represented in the curriculum.
Overall, sustainability-related courses at KTU are not limited to environmental issues but also cover a wide range of topics such as social justice, health, economy, energy, urbanization, and institutional strengthening.
