Number of Innovative Program(s) in Energy and Climate Change

Karadeniz Technical University carries out numerous innovative projects within the scope of energy efficiency and climate change mitigation. These projects lead the development and implementation of sustainable technologies at the campus scale.

  • Smart Solar-Powered Lighting System: Network-supported photovoltaic panels combined with motion-sensor LED fixtures have achieved up to 50% energy savings.
  • Solar Panel Cleaning Robot: An Arduino-controlled automatic cleaning system has reduced PV panel efficiency losses by 50%.
  • Ni-B Coated Expanded Graphite Electrodes: A flexible, conductive, and low-cost electrode technology has been developed for high-efficiency energy storage applications.
  • Seafloor Hydrogen Sulfide Collection System: A patented system extracts hydrogen gas, fresh water, and sulfur from the seafloor, reducing marine pollution and enabling clean energy generation.
  • Rainwater Harvesting and Greywater Recycling System: Collected rooftop rainwater is treated and reused for cleaning, toilet flushing, and irrigation, ensuring significant water and energy savings.

These innovative projects are conducted in line with KTÜ’s goals for sustainable energy, resource efficiency, and carbon reduction, and are fully integrated into the university’s research and application infrastructure.
