To support research and academic activities, Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) carries out new construction projects under the coordination of the Project Production Center (PÜM). These projects aim to modernize the university’s academic and social facilities and to create living and working spaces tailored to the needs of students and staff.
Due to the inability of the current Faculty of Dentistry to meet the increasing demand from students and patients, a new faculty building has been designed. The design was inspired by the existing campus and architectural character, which originated from architectural competitions and constructions of the 1960s.
The sloped topography of the site was used to arrange entrances for different functions at different levels. Since both education and healthcare services are conducted simultaneously in dental faculties, the workflow between patients, dentists, and students played a decisive role in design decisions. In addition, an atrium on the ground floor was planned as a central hub serving heavily used spaces and providing a focal point for the upper floors.
Farabi Hospital, which opened in 1986 with a capacity of 600 beds, was later expanded to 800 beds. As the current facility reached full capacity, the KTU Children’s Hospital was built on the eastern section of the development axis located south of the existing hospital.
The newly designed hospital has a capacity of 225 beds and includes clinics, polyclinics, diagnostic and treatment units. With a total indoor area of 34,800 m², the facility provides 155 m² per inpatient bed.
The Entrepreneurship House Project will have a total indoor area of 925 m², consisting of a multipurpose hall, 12 offices, 1 meeting room, 1 game room, and 2 rest rooms.
This project aims to provide students and young entrepreneurs with an innovative and modern working environment where they can develop ideas and bring their projects to life. The completion of the project is planned for 2025.
