Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) has adopted a Policy for the Minimisation of Disposable Items to reduce the environmental impact associated with single-use and short-lifecycle products. This policy encourages a shift towards reusable, durable, and sustainable alternatives across all university facilities, including academic, administrative, and social spaces.
The policy promotes responsible consumption practices by discouraging the use of disposable cutlery, cups, plates, and packaging materials. It also fosters awareness among staff and students about the long-term ecological effects of waste generation and supports initiatives that reduce reliance on disposable materials.
Through this framework, KTU contributes to SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production by integrating sustainable material management and encouraging a university-wide culture of waste prevention and environmental stewardship.
