Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) supplies its campus-wide drinking water from the municipal network operated by the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality TİSKİ General Directorate. Accordingly, the primary responsibility for ensuring the safety of the water used at the University and preventing potential contamination risks lies with TİSKİ.
The Esiroğlu Drinking Water Treatment Plant, operated by TİSKİ since 1992, is fed by the Atasu Dam. Located within the Eastern Black Sea basin, the plant supplies drinking water to the districts of Ortahisar, Akçaabat, Maçka, and Yomra in Trabzon. (TİSKİ facility page)
To safeguard water quality during operations, TİSKİ conducts regular and periodic pollution analyses and implements monitoring and control mechanisms in line with national and international standards to prevent potential contamination. In this respect, the safety of water delivered to the University—along with the prevention of accidents or contamination risks—is assured through TİSKİ’s professional procedures.
Within its own remit, KTU regularly performs maintenance and repairs of campus water installations. The Department of Construction and Technical Works takes the necessary measures to prevent any contamination or faults in distribution across campus. In this way, water safety is ensured at the source by TİSKİ and contamination risks are minimized during on-campus distribution—providing uninterrupted, safe, and sustainable water management at the University.
