Programs towards good aquatic stewardship practices

Since 2022, Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) has been implementing its Water Conservation Directive to ensure the efficient and responsible use of water across the campus. Under this directive, transmission lines and indoor water installations are continuously monitored, leaks are addressed promptly, and the water supply to unused buildings or sections is safely shut off from the main valves. By ensuring that taps left open after working hours are closed, unnecessary water waste is prevented.

For park and garden irrigation, early morning or late afternoon hours with lower evaporation are preferred. Irrigation is carried out in line with technical standards and with the support of automation systems. In units requiring renovation, the installation of low-flow, aerated, or sensor-activated taps is included in the planning. In addition, infrastructure has been developed to store rainwater from roofs and parking areas, thereby minimizing the use of mains water for garden and lawn irrigation.

These practices demonstrate KTU’s commitment to the efficient use of water resources, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
