Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) places great importance on the preservation and documentation of intangible cultural heritage such as local folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge. Aware that cultural heritage is a fundamental part of our collective memory and social identity, the university aims to preserve these values and pass them on to future generations through both artistic and scientific activities.
In this regard, the KTU Folk Dance Team not only successfully stages the unique folk dances of the Black Sea region but also includes dances from different regions in its repertoire, thereby contributing to the preservation of cultural diversity. Awards received at national and international festivals and competitions highlight the team’s achievements and demonstrate the university’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage.

At the same time, the Department of Archaeology at KTU plays a significant role in preserving and documenting tangible cultural heritage through field research, excavations, and academic publications. By uncovering the archaeological wealth of the Black Sea region, the department contributes both to the scientific community and the collective memory of society, while also providing students with hands-on training opportunities.

Through these two strong fields, the university actively works on the preservation of both intangible cultural heritage (folk dances, folklore, oral traditions) and tangible cultural heritage (archaeological artifacts and historical findings). KTU continues its mission as a university that leads the protection of cultural identity, brings local values to a universal level, and documents cultural heritage for transmission to future generations.
