Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) has adopted a Sustainable Food Purchases Policy to promote environmentally responsible and socially conscious food procurement practices across all university facilities. This policy supports the purchase of food products that are locally sourced, seasonal, organic, and ethically produced.
The policy encourages collaboration with local farmers, cooperatives, and certified suppliers to reduce the environmental footprint of university dining services. It also aims to minimize food waste and promote healthy, low-carbon, and fair-trade choices within campus cafeterias and events.
Through this commitment, KTU contributes to SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13 – Climate Action by fostering sustainable food systems and supporting regional economic development.
