University access to local farmers and food producers

KTU – Advancing Research in Food Safety, Sustainable Nutrition, and Biotechnology

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) has distinguished itself through initiatives that aim to enhance access to scientific knowledge in the fields of food safety and sustainable nutrition. Within this framework, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science, and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences conduct research and educational activities directly linked to food safety.

Faculty of Pharmacy: Research in food supplements, food safety, natural product applications, and public health ensures that students gain access to up-to-date knowledge and practices in food safety. These studies highlight the importance of safe and reliable food consumption in society while contributing to the prevention of foodborne risks.

Faculty of Science: From a basic science perspective, this faculty addresses food safety through research in biology, chemistry, and environmental sciences, including food production processes, environmental impacts, biotechnological applications, and analytical methods. These efforts strengthen scientific knowledge supporting food safety across all stages of the food chain.

KTU Food Safety Research

Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Health Sciences: Equipped with advanced laboratory infrastructure, this department provides students with hands-on education in nutrition and dietetics, conducting research on food analysis, nutrient composition, and the development of public health nutrition policies. Laboratory work ensures that food safety is supported through practical applications in real-life contexts.
