Upgrade buildings to higher energy efficiency

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) attaches great importance to enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability performance of its buildings. In addition to newly constructed facilities such as the Faculty of Dentistry Hospital and the Children’s Hospital, which are designed to maximize the use of natural daylight, KTU continuously renovates its existing building stock in line with the principles of energy efficiency, safety, and sustainable resource use.

Furthermore, the Faculty of Letters building has been designed with a green roof system, contributing to improved thermal insulation, effective rainwater management, and overall environmental sustainability. In 2024, the Department of Construction and Technical Affairs carried out numerous maintenance, repair, and modernization projects with a focus on energy-efficient practices.

  • Conversion of Maçka Vocational School to a natural gas system
  • Roof repairs on Kanuni and Central Campuses
  • Modernization and maintenance of the Central Heating Plant burners
  • Maintenance and renewal of transformers, generators, UPS units, and LED lighting systems
  • Elevator repair and modernization across multiple academic and administrative buildings
  • Renewal of ventilation and installation systems
  • Installation of energy-efficient distribution panels and control systems
  • Renovation of the Kanuni Campus sports field surface
  • Restoration works in the Faculties of Letters, Architecture, Pharmacy, and the Osman Turan Congress Center
  • Maintenance of fire alarm systems and electrical infrastructure
  • Procurement of materials promoting energy conservation in landscaping and mechanical systems

Through these comprehensive efforts, KTU continuously upgrades its facilities to improve energy performance, reduce operational costs, and strengthen environmental sustainability.
