Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) has established a Waste Disposal – Landfill Policy to manage waste in an environmentally responsible manner and minimize landfill dependency. This policy defines the university’s commitment to waste reduction, recycling, and safe disposal in accordance with national environmental regulations and international sustainability standards.

The policy promotes the segregation of waste at the source, encouraging reuse and recycling before landfill disposal is considered. It also ensures that landfill operations follow strict environmental safety procedures, including controlled waste transfer, monitoring of leachate and emissions, and the use of impermeable liners to prevent soil and groundwater contamination.

Through this framework, KTU aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills, increase recycling rates, and contribute to SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 15 – Life on Land by protecting terrestrial ecosystems.
