Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) manages all wastewater treatment and discharge processes in full compliance with the regulations of the Trabzon Water and Sewerage Administration (TİSKİ). The university’s wastewater network is directly connected to the municipal sewage system, and all effluents are treated and safely discharged through TİSKİ’s deep-sea outfall system.
Although KTU does not operate an independent wastewater treatment plant, all treatment and monitoring procedures are performed under TİSKİ supervision. Discharge permits, reporting, and quality controls are coordinated in accordance with municipal standards, ensuring environmentally safe disposal practices.
In addition, the Construction and Technical Works Department is responsible for designing and maintaining sewerage, stormwater, and drainage infrastructures within the campus. This includes the planning of wastewater and rainwater systems to prevent surface flooding and to ensure efficient runoff management.
Rainwater management and reuse are also integral parts of KTU’s approach. A Scientific Research Project (BAP) launched in 2024 focuses on treating rainwater collected from building roofs using physical and biological methods for reuse in irrigation. The university’s Resource Conservation Directive further promotes the use of treated and collected rainwater for landscaping, supporting resource efficiency and sustainable water management.
