Women's mentoring schemes

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) regards gender equality as an integral part of institutional development and academic progress. Within this scope, one of the university’s SDG-5 strategic goals is to ensure equal representation of women in both academic and administrative leadership positions, as well as in research projects and scientific teams.

KTU promotes the visibility and active participation of women in decision-making processes, prioritizing inclusive representation in its governance structure. The Scholarship Directive and student support mechanisms are structured to strengthen the participation of female students in education and research processes. To raise awareness of gender equality, KTU develops joint projects with NGOs, local authorities, and international universities, aiming to create impact both locally and globally.

Throughout 2024, KTU organized numerous activities to increase awareness of gender equality and strengthen institutional sensitivity. These events were coordinated by the Center for Women and Family Studies (KAÇAUM) in collaboration with various academic units. Some of the activities included:

  • Panels and talks on March 8, International Women’s Day, focusing on women’s place in society, female representation in leadership, and gender awareness.
  • Awareness programs on KTU TV for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25).
  • Community-oriented information sessions on themes such as “Livable Cities for Women” and “Safe Digital Life – A Life Free from Violence.”
  • A panel titled “Women Scientists at KTU” showcasing the scientific contributions of female academics and sharing inspiring success stories.
  • Interdisciplinary symposia and academic meetings organized with the contributions of the Departments of Women’s and Gender Studies, including special sessions for master’s and doctoral research.
