Dear students,
Welcome to the Department of English Language and Literature, Your New Home!
The Department Curriculum includes a One year Prep Program. If you want to get exempted, you must sit for a Face-to-Face Prep Proficiency Exam.
Who can sit for this exam? 1) The newcomers (2026-2027), 2) Repeating (2025-2026), and Undergraduate Transfer students (If you have not fulfilled the exemption conditions)
The Prep Proficiency Exam Dates:
23 September 2026, 10:00 - Grammar
23 September 2026, 13:00 - Listening
23 September 2026, 14:30 - Writing
24 September 2026, 09:00 - Speaking
The Prep Proficiency Exam Contents:
Grammar + Reading: YDS
Listening: Upper-intermediate Listening Questions
Writing: Composing a 5 Paragraph Essay
Speaking: The IELTS Speaking Exam
The Prep Proficiency Exam Venue:
KTU, Faculty of Letters, Block C, Ground Floor, Department of English Language and Literature. (Important: For the exam, please do not refer to School of Foreign Languages, YDYO.
It is not obligatory to attend this exam and you will be a prep class student; however, to learn about your own level and the Department expectations, it is advised to sit for this exam.
There is no need to get registered. It is only necessary to have your TC ID card, OR Passport, OR Foreign ID Card.
The “Orientation with Newcomers” will be held on 21th of September at the Department Halls.
Important note: If you have obtained a score of 70 or above on the YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDÄ°L exams, this score will be valid only for the Grammar and Reading exam, and you will be exempt from these two sections. You are still required to attend the other exam sessions.

To be exempt from the Grammar and Reading exam, you must send your exam result document in PDF format and in its entirety (with the verification code clearly visible and readable) to sayez@ktu.edu.tr no later than September 21, 2026.
