Graduate Thesis Project

Definition and scope

This project type supports the thesis work of graduate students enrolled in postgraduate education at KTÜ, including master's, doctoral, medical/pharmacy/dental, or art proficiency students.

Application requirements

  1. The thesis project application is submitted after the thesis topic has been approved by the relevant Institute Board/Department (for specialization in medicine/dentistry/pharmacy). The thesis topic and project title must be identical.
  2. Master's students must apply for their thesis project within the first half of their legal master's period, while doctoral students must apply within 12 months after their thesis proposal is accepted by the Institute Board of Directors. Specialization students in medicine/dentistry/pharmacy must not have entered the final year (12 months) of their legal specialization period to apply for a thesis project.
  3. Faculty members who are members of our university and have been appointed as thesis advisors with the approval of the dean's office for the relevant institute or specialization theses may apply as project leaders for thesis projects.
  4. If our university staff members continue their graduate education at another university, in order for them to receive thesis project support, their thesis advisor or second advisor must be a faculty member at Karadeniz Technical University.
  5. If the graduate student advisor changes for any reason, the project leadership may be transferred to the new advisor by commission decision, provided that the appropriate opinions of the former and new advisors are obtained. In the event of a disagreement between the former and new student advisors, the project in question is canceled by commission decision, and the materials obtained may be returned to the relevant department/division chair by commission decision.
  6. Researchers applying for a new project must be the project leader and have fulfilled the publication obligations required for their closed projects.
  7. The project leader must have entered the publications produced from the BAP project grants received in the last 10 years into the AVESİS system and uploaded the outputs to the same system.

Project period

The project period (including any extension) may be up to 36 months. However, financial support for thesis projects granted an extension may be continued for a maximum of six months with the approval of the thesis monitoring committee. The project may be suspended upon the application of the project leader and the decision of the committee if the project leader or researchers fall ill, a natural disaster occurs, there are difficulties in obtaining materials, or other reasons deemed appropriate by the committee arise that would prevent the project from being completed within the legal time frame.

Project proposal evaluation process

The following steps are followed in the evaluation process for project proposals:

  1. Project proposals are subject to a preliminary evaluation by the project office to determine whether they meet the necessary conditions.
  2. Projects that pass the preliminary evaluation are sent to the Coordinator.
  3. BAP06 projects sent by the BAP Coordinator to the commission members for evaluation, taking into account the research area of the project, are reviewed by the relevant commission member.
  4. The commission member can evaluate the project proposal themselves or, if deemed necessary, appoint a referee (the academic titles of the referees to whom the project proposal is sent must be equivalent to or higher than that of the project leader).
  5. If the committee member identifies deficiencies in the project proposal, they may request revisions from the project coordinator, provided they state the reasons. Project proposals that are not revised within one month are canceled.
  6. Project proposals whose evaluation has been completed are submitted to the commission agenda. At the commission meeting, after the relevant commission member expresses their opinion or the referee's opinion on the project proposal, the commission chair opens the project proposal for discussion in all its aspects. The committee decides whether to support, amend, or reject the application based on the opinions presented. The committee may reduce or increase the budget proposed in the project application, partially or completely cancel the requests in the proposal, and/or request changes to the project's duration, type, or name. The committee may organize a panel with the project team if deemed necessary during the project evaluation phase.

Required documents for supported projects
