MASTER'S PROGRAM - POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED IN COURSE REGISTRATION

According to the KTU Graduate Education Regulations and the Senate Principles on the Execution of KTU Graduate Education Programs;

 

MASTER STUDENTS;

  • During the course periods of the master's program, they can take a maximum of three (9 credits) compulsory or elective courses from their thesis advisor. He can take a maximum of two courses (6 credits), excluding non-credit courses (Seminar, Scientific Research and Publication Ethics), from a lecturer other than his/her advisor.
  • Must choose at least half of the minimum course load from the courses in their own department
  • The registration for the 8001 and 8002 coded Specialization Courses can be made starting from the semester following the appointment of the advisor with the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board. A Master's student may enroll in only 1 (one) specialization course opened by his thesis advisor in the same semester with the code 8000. Since 9000 coded specialization courses are only for doctoral students, master's students cannot make registration for 9000 coded specialization courses.   • Master's Specialization Courses with the code 8000 are specific to the departments in which the students are registered, and it is not appropriate to make register for a specialization course in a different department.
  • The maximum duration of successfully completing the credit (5000 and 7000 code) and non-credit courses (Seminar, Scientific Research and Publication Ethics) in the Master's program is 4 (four) semesters. Students who complete the course period cannot make course register with or without credit, except for the master's thesis and specialization course.
  • A student who cannot successfully complete the credit/non-credit courses and the seminar course included in the education plan at the end of four semesters, or who cannot fulfill the success conditions/criteria stipulated by the University within this period, is dismissed from the university.

 

Compulsory Courses in the Master's Program (to be completed by the end of the 4th semester);

  • At least 7 courses, not less than 21 credits. At least one of these courses must be selected from English courses. At least 2 of them must be chosen from 5000 coded compulsory courses (valid for students who registered after the 2015-2016 Fall semester).
  • Seminar (After the first semester following the appointment of a advisor, registration can be made for the SEMINAR course. In the first semester, registration cannot be made for the seminar course)
  • FBE 5100 "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics" (valid for students enrolled after the 2017-2018 Fall semester)

 

DOCTORAL PROGRAM - POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED IN COURSE REGISTRATION

Ph.D. STUDENTS;

  • Students can take a maximum of three (9 credits) compulsory or elective courses from their thesis advisor during the course period of the doctoral program. He can take a maximum of two courses (6 credits), excluding non-credit courses (Seminar, Scientific Research and Publication Ethics), from a lecturer other than his/her advisor.
  • Must choose at least half of the minimum course load from the courses in their own department,
  • Registration for the 9001 and 9002 coded Specialization Courses can be made starting from the semester following the appointment of the advisor, with the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board. A doctoral student can only enroll in one (one) specialization course offered by his/her thesis advisor in the same semester with the code 9000. Since 8000 coded specialization courses are only for master's students, doctoral students cannot make registration for 8000 coded specialization courses.   • The maximum duration of successfully completing the credit (5000 and 7000 code) and non-credit courses (if not taken in the seminary and master's program, Scientific Research and Publication Ethics) in the doctoral program is 4 (four) semesters for those who are accepted with a master's degree with a thesis, for those who are accepted with a bachelor's degree 6 (six) semesters. Students who complete the course period; In addition to the doctoral thesis and the field of specialization, students can be enrolled in Scientific Research and Project Preparation Education Course until the doctoral proficiency exam (by the end of the 5th semester), and Development and Learning Course, Planning and Evaluation in Teaching Course until the submission of the doctoral thesis. Students who have completed the course period cannot make course software with or without credit, except for these courses.
  • Students who successfully complete their Thesis Proposal Defense after passing the PhD proficiency exam are required to write software for the Thesis Monitoring Course every semester. As of the Fall semester of the 2017-2018 Academic Year, students registered in the doctoral program 2 times in a row or 3 times intermittently have a FAILED Thesis Monitoring Course shall be is dismissed from the university.
  • Development and Learning and Planning and Evaluation in Education courses have been opened as "FBE 5201- Development and Learning" and "FBE 5202 - Planning and Evaluation in Education" within the Common Courses of our Institute since the 2020-2021 Spring semester. Course selection for these courses will be made among the common courses under "Institute Department" on the software screen during course registrations. Except for the mandatory cases deemed appropriate by the Graduate Institute Administrative Board, requests to take these courses from different universities will not be accepted.
  • The student can make registration for the SEMINAR course from the next semester following the assignment of the advisor (Registration cannot be made for the seminar course in the first semester)
  • Students who fail to successfully complete the credit/non-credit courses and seminar courses included in the curriculum at the end of four (six for those admitted with a bachelor's degree) semester or fail to achieve the minimum grade point average required by the University are dismissed from the university.

 

Compulsory Courses in the Doctorate Program;

  • At least 7 courses with not less than 21 credits. At least 2 of these courses must be selected from English. At least 2 of the credit courses taken must be selected from the 5000 coded compulsory courses (valid for students who registered after the 2015-2016 Fall semester) (Must be completed by the end of the 4th semester)
  • Seminar (valid for students enrolled after the 2017-2018 Fall semester) (Must be completed by the end of the 4th semester),
  • FBE 5100 "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics" (valid for students enrolled after the 2017-2018 Fall semester) (Must be achieved by the end of the 4th Semester). Students who are successful in taking the "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics" course during the Master’s period are exempted from this course in the doctoral period by applying with a petition through the Head of the Department.
  • FBE 5001 “Scientific Research and Project Preparation Training” (valid for students who registered after the 2014-2015 Spring semester) (It must be taken from the second semester of the program and before the PhD. Proficiency Exam)
  • Students who successfully complete their Thesis Proposal Defense after passing the PhD proficiency exam are required to write software for the Thesis Monitoring Course every semester. As of the Fall semester of the 2017-2018 Academic Year, students registered in the doctoral program 2 times in a row or 3 times intermittently have a FAILED Thesis Monitoring Course shall be is dismissed from the university.
  • Successful completion of "Development and Learning" and "Planning and Evaluation in Teaching" courses until the Thesis Defense Exam.
