dean's message

The Faculty of Letters has an active place in the field of social sciences in our university, which is the center of knowledge production. Our faculty is in an important process of training qualified graduates who will serve the development of our country in line with the goals set within the framework of its mission and vision with its administrative structure and developing academic staff who have adopted a fair management approach. Our primary goal is to produce individuals who will dismantle the dark world of ignorance, which is the source of every evil. Thus, among our important objectives is raising individuals in the field of social sciences who possess contemporary knowledge, inquire, question, collaborate with stakeholders to implement what they have learned, generate permanent solutions to existing problems, and blend awareness with social responsibility.

The contemporary world, shaped by the fluidity of people, commodities, and ideas resulting from globalization, is a realm of opportunities and dreams that encourages humanity to establish a life beyond our planet with the courage derived from the dominance of transnational forms. In this regard, the careful support of the accumulation of the past and the imaginative power of the present for the future, besides science and knowledge, highlight the importance of culture and wisdom. Indeed, the concise expressions by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk make it clear that victories cannot be achieved without an army of wisdom. In this endeavor, the Faculty of Letters aims to establish a prestigious position both within Karadeniz Technical University and on an international scale. To achieve this goal, it continues on its path with a dynamic administrative and academic staff, supporting and conducting cultural and artistic activities within the responsibility of humanitarian sciences and adopting an educational approach that is in line with the requirements of the era to raise awareness in current societal issues and fields.

The Faculty of Letters, building on the history and accumulation of the Faculty of Science and Letters, has been pursuing an educational approach in line with the requirements of the era with its 8 departments since the separation of the two faculties in 2010. Among the existing departments, History, Turkish Language and Literature, Western Languages and Literature, Russian Language and Literature, Sociology, and Archaeology actively continue their undergraduate education. Efforts are underway to initiate undergraduate education in the departments of Art History and Psychology. Alongside its strong academic structure, our faculty, with a potential of over 2500 students, conducts education and research activities in the field of science in undergraduate and graduate programs.

One of the crucial building blocks of a universal institution is its material resources and potentials. This opportunity, which is the most important foundation of institutionalization, signifies having the infrastructure necessary for education. Nowadays, we are experiencing the unity of obtaining this opportunity, breathing in a campus atmosphere with a new building complex. The construction of this building complex is indebted to the support of our noble nation and the efforts of its honorable citizens. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to the realization of educational and research activities for the children of our nation on their behalf.
