The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering was founded in 1996. The department within the body of the Faculty of Marine Sciences is the youngest department of Turkey in the field. The department aims at training naval architects and marine engineers who can produce the most economical products using the current technologies and design systems. The department offers mandatory and optional courses on naval architecture, marine engineering and social branches as part of the undergraduate program.

The department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is committed to addressing the educational and research needs to ensure sustainable management of diverse ship designs and production areas. Main research activities involve ship production, ship design, ship resistance, marine engines, and air conditioning.

For those who wish to further their studies, the department offers a master program as well.
