Nowruz Enthusiasm at Our University

The "Nowruz Spring Festival" event, organized by the Office of International Relations with the theme "Fire of Brotherhood," was held at the Hasan Polat Sports Hall outdoor amphitheater.

The program was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI; the Consul General of the Russian Federation, Rustem KHAZIEV; Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali TEMİZ and Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk URSAVAŞ; Acting Secretary General Prof. Dr. Cemil RAKICI; the President of the Turan Ideal Development and Solidarity Association, Kenan KURU; as well as academic and administrative staff and our students.

A Message of "A Fairer World" from Our Rector

Expressing his feelings and thoughts at the event, which began with a concert by the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Janissary Band (Mehter), our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI stated:

“In our ancient geography, Nowruz has brought different nations and cultures together around a common happiness and built bridges between hearts. Unfortunately, in different parts of the world, painful events are occurring where innocent people lose their lives and children are forced to grow up in the shadow of war. Faced with this picture that wounds the heart of every person of conscience, the necessity of clinging more strongly to the common values of humanity is clearly visible. Universities are important places where knowledge is produced and cultures meet. Our wish is that the renewal brought by spring reflects in our hearts and that mankind lives in a fairer, more merciful, and more peaceful world.”

“We are Parts of the Same Roots, the Same Culture”

Meryem BABAYEVA, our Azerbaijani student from the Department of Management Information Systems at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, pointed out that Nowruz translates to "new day" and said:

“Today, we who come here from different Turkic Republics are actually parts of the same roots, the same history, and the same culture. Nowruz reminds us once again of this shared identity.”

Cultural Traditions on Display

During the event, local music and dance performances were presented by students from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan, and traditional flavors belonging to the Turkic world were introduced. The program concluded following the traditional "iron smithing" and "jumping over fire" demonstrations.
