Establishment and History
The Department of Management Information Systems started education in 2017 and produced its first graduates in 2021. It has been providing postgraduate education within the Institute of Social Sciences since 2022. Students who are eligible to enter the master's program are subject to the English Level Determination Exam. Students who are successful in the exam start taking courses, while those who are unsuccessful can continue to the English Preparatory School for a maximum of one year and proceed to the course phase if they are successful.

Degree Earned
Students who successfully complete the program are awarded the Management Information Systems Specialist diploma.

Admission and Registration Requirements
Decision No. 320/12 of the KTU Senate dated 15.06.2021 (Senate Principles for Application and Entry Requirements for Graduate Programs) - KTU - Social Sciences Institute Graduate Programs Application Guide - Students accepted to the program from outside the field are required to attend the Scientific Preparation Program and pass the courses determined according to their graduation status.

Purpose of the Program
The objectives of the program are to provide students with information in the fields of Information Technologies and Business, to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge in computer science and software development processes, to make information management processes and information systems more effective and efficient for users and to develop the ability to solve Management and Information Technology problems, to develop the ability to design and implement innovative ideas, and to provide effective communication techniques.

Recognition of Prior Learning
The Senate Decision No. 340 dated 28.07.2023 "Recognition of Prior Learning Directive" was accepted and entered into force in order to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting and adaptation of the achievements obtained by students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University outside a higher education institution. The Directive; * Recognition of knowledge, skills and competencies gained through special interest through exemption exams to be counted instead of program courses, * Recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be counted instead of program courses, * Crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions in line with their special interests. Announcement of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, receipt of applications and evaluation are carried out on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of Prior Learning will provide many benefits to our students and employers. For our students; increasing professional development and mobility in the labor market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, increasing student motivation and self-confidence can be listed among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspective; it will contribute to eliminating skill or competency deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees will spend outside the workplace for training purposes and thus more efficient use of resources.

Requirements and Rules for the Degree to be Earned
The duration of the program is four semesters and can be extended to a maximum of six semesters. At the end of the fourth semester at the latest, at least eight compulsory and elective courses, one of which is English, the seminar course and the "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics" course (non-credit) must be taken and passed, with a total of no less than 24 credits (120 ECTS) in the curriculum, and at the end of the sixth semester at the latest, the thesis study must be completed and the thesis defense exam must be successful (See KTU Postgraduate Education-Teaching Regulation).

Exams, Measurement and Evaluation
Students are subjected to a midterm exam, midterm work (project, seminar, quiz, homework or a second midterm exam) and a final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam to the course success grade is 30%, the contribution of the midterm work is 20% and the contribution of the final exam is 50%. All exams are evaluated out of 100 points. In order for a student to be considered successful in a course, he/she must have received at least a "CC" letter grade as the end-of-semester success grade from that course.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate from the master's program; - At least eight courses, one of which must be in English, including the compulsory courses of the program, with a total of no less than 24 credits (120 ECTS), the "Seminar" course and the "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics" course (non-credit) must be successfully completed by the end of the fourth semester at the latest, - The thesis study must be successfully completed by the end of the sixth semester at the latest.

There are 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 3 assistant professors in the department. The department prepares students for a competitive work environment with its fully equipped Human-Computer Interaction laboratory, Robotics Coding Laboratory and technology classes.
