Under the auspices of the Presidency and within the framework of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the 8th National Antarctic Science Expedition, coordinated by TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute, is currently underway. Leading the expedition, Prof. Dr. Ersan BAŞAR, a member of our academic staff, drew attention to the melting of glaciers, which is a prominent indicator of climate change. BAŞAR stated, "Climate change is now visibly manifesting its effects worldwide. Unfortunately, we can observe this effect in Antarctica through the melting of glaciers. Similarly, the Arctic region is also affected by this change. The disappearance of glaciers could have serious consequences for the world. Therefore, preserving glaciers should be of utmost importance. The melting of glaciers is directly related to global warming."
