What is Erasmus+ KA171 (ICM)?
Erasmus+ Programme has many types of projects. KA171, also known as International Credit Mobility, is a mobility project which allows student and staff exchange between Erasmus+ Programme countries and third countries not associated to the programme.

Which countries are Erasmus+ Programme countries?
Erasmus+ Programme countries include EU members and third countries associated to the programme. Third countries associated to the programme are North Macedonia, Serbia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Türkiye. All other countries fall into the category of "third countries not associated to the programme".

Who can apply for KA171 projects?
Applications can be submitted only by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) which:

• hold an ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education)

• are located in an EU member country or a third country associated to the programme

How can HEIs from third countries not associated to the programme become a partner in a KA171 project?
As an HEI from a third country not associated to the programme, you can be a partner institution in a KA171 project by signing a KA171 inter-institutional agreement (IIA) with the HEI which is the project coordinator.

Is there a draft IIA and how should the IIA be filled?

You can download the draft IIA here, with KTU’s information already filled in. The sections to be filled in by the partner institution are highlighted in yellow.
Signing an IIA is a pre-requisite that serves as a solid proof of existing cooperation between our institutions, and in the grant application it is crucial for the evaluation of the project.
Along with the draft IIA filled by your side, a partner identification form (PIF) is required. PIF includes key information on partner institutions and helps the project coordinator write the project proposal. You can download the draft PIF here.

What are the responsibilities of a partner institution?

Outgoing mobility from partner institution

• Promoting KA171 mobility to their students/staff in the relevant fields

• Announcing application calls to their students/staff in the relevant fields

• Collecting and evaluating applications based on the selection criteria decided mutually with KTU

• Nominating students/staff to KTU

• Guiding selected students/staff to arrange required documents and submit their application file

• Guiding their students through the recognition of their learning at the host institution

Incoming mobility to partner institution

• Providing information to KTU students/staff who are selected to carry out a mobility at your institution regarding how to reach the campus, accommodation options, student registration, visa requirements, required documents, and other special requirements if any

• Issuing an acceptance letter for KTU students/staff and approving relevant documents

• Coordinating communication between incoming students/staff and relevant contact persons from the receiving faculty/department

• Issuing certificate of stay/certificate of attendance at the end of the mobility and issuing/approving relevant documents proving the completion of the mobility (such as Learning Agreement After Mobility, transcript of records)

Is there any financial liability for partner institutions?
Partner institutions have no financial liability in the project. According to the Erasmus+ Programme, all KA171 mobilities are funded by the project coordinating institution, who applies for and receives the project budget. In this context, students and staff coming to KTU for a mobility period will receive their mobility grants from KTU.

- Staff mobility for Training

- Student mobility for traineeships

- Student mobility for studies

What is the mobility duration for each mobility type? For how many days is the participant funded?
- Staff mobility for Teaching Assignments: A teaching visit lasts 5 days except for travel days, and the staff is funded for a total of 7 days (5 days teaching activities + 2 travel days).
- Staff mobility for Training: A training visit lasts 5 days except for travel days, and the staff is funded for a total of 7 days (5 days teaching activities + 2 travel days).
- Student mobility for traineeships: A traineeship lasts 2 months, and the student is funded for 2 months.
- Student mobility for studies: A study visit lasts for the whole period of a semester. The student is funded for the whole period of stay.

What is the amount of grant to be paid to partner institution’s students and staff participating in a mobility to KTU?
Individual support for student mobility: 800 Euros per month
Individual support for staff mobility: 148 Euros per day

In addition to the individual support based on the duration of the mobility, students and staff receive a standard amount for travel support. The distance is calculated through the European Commission’s platform Distance Calculator.
