COURSE REGISTRATION

  1. I couldn't register for courses in the period specified in the academic calendar. What can I do?

You can apply to the Directorate of Student Affairs with a petition within one month from the beginning of the semester to register. Applications will not be accepted after this period.

  1. I realized that I missed registering for some courses at the beginning of the semester. What should I do?

You can apply to the Directorate of Student Affairs with a petition within one month from the beginning of the semester to register. Applications will not be accepted after this period.

  1. I have problems with the registration of the interactive course. Where should I apply?

You can apply to the Directorate of Student Affairs.

  1. The elective course I want to take is not available when I register for courses. What can I do?

Elective courses have a quota system. If the quota is full, you cannot enroll in the course. If you are having trouble selecting an elective course, please contact the department secretary.

  1. Can I take another elective course in the spring (fall) semester instead of the one I forgot to take in the fall (spring) semester?

No, you cannot. You can only take the courses specified in the education plan for that semester.

  1. At the end of my fourth year, I realized that I did not take one elective/compulsory course. What can I do?

You must take the missing course in the first semester the course is offered. This situation may cause an extension of your academic period. To avoid this problem, compare the number of courses you need to take with the courses you have taken on your transcript at the beginning of each semester by examining the Course Plan or Course Catalog / ECTS Course Information Package on your department's web page.

  1. Where can I learn how many elective courses I need to take in a semester?

You can find out from the Course Plan or Course Catalog / ECTS Course Information Package on your department's web page.

  1. At the end of the second year (4th semester), my overall weighted GPA fell below 1.80. Can I take the courses of the third year (5th semester)?

No, you cannot. You cannot take third-year courses until your overall weighted GPA exceeds 1.80. Once you achieve a general weighted GPA of 1.80 after the fourth semester, you will not face this key problem again.

  1. Do I have to register for compulsory courses along with elective courses when registering for courses online?

You must register for all elective and compulsory courses.

  1. Will I register for courses myself in the first year?

Course registration is done by Student Affairs in the first semester. However, from the second semester onwards (including the second semester), course registration is done by the student.

  1. How many hours of courses can I take in one semester?

40 hours. However, those who are in the last year of the maximum education period (7 years) and those who can graduate at the end of that semester when they take all the courses are exempt from this limitation.

 

STUDYING COURSES

  1. Can I take courses from the upper classes?

Taking courses from upper classes is not implemented at our university.

  1. I obtained a medical report due to health issues. Will I be considered attending classes during the time I am on medical leave?

Health reports are not considered as attendance.

  1. Where can I learn about the courses I will take for 4 years?

You can learn about the courses you will take from the Course Plan or Course Catalog / ECTS Course Information Package on your department's web page.

  1. In which semester can I take the graduation thesis?

You can take the graduation thesis in the fall or spring semester of the fourth year.

  1. The schedule of the course I took as a makeup overlaps with the schedule of the course in my own class. What can I do?

There may be overlaps in makeup courses. With the permission of the relevant instructor, you can attend alternative course groups if the same instructor has them. You can contact the instructors for this matter.

  1. I can't attend classes in the distance education system. What should I do?

First, watch the educational videos on the KTU distance education center page. If your problem cannot be solved, contact the coordinator of your department's distance education.

  1. Some courses are conducted through distance education, while others are face-to-face. Is there an attendance requirement in both systems?

There is an attendance requirement in both systems. However, with the decision of the KTU Senate dated 14.09.2021 and numbered 323, as a special case for the pandemic period, except for courses involving practice, students who take the exams of the courses are considered to have fulfilled the attendance requirement. This situation is only valid for the 2021-2022 academic year.

  1. Does our university have a summer school program? Can I take courses from other universities' summer schools?

Our university does not have a summer school program. Participation in other universities' summer schools is also not allowed. Our university only has a makeup exam application.

  1. How can I get exempt from a course?

Applications for the exemption of courses that students have taken and passed at other universities and departments (taken within the last five years) are made to the Directorate of Student Affairs with the required documents within the periods specified in the academic calendar. Applications are decided by the Department Adjustment Committee and the Faculty Board.

 

EXAMS

  1. I couldn't attend the mid-term exam due to health issues, etc. What can I do?

You can apply to the head of the department with valid documentation for your excuse. You must document your excuse. For health issues, you need to apply to the department within seven days following the end date of the excuse, along with a report obtained from the university's health institutions or other health institutions (including family health centers). Applications made not in this period will not be processed.

  1. I couldn't attend the final, makeup, graduation, and additional exams due to my excuse (health, etc.). What can I do?

There are no makeup exams for the exams listed here.

  1. How many courses can I take the graduation exam for?

Students who enrolled in our university before the 2012-2013 academic year can take the graduation exam for 3 courses. Those who enrolled afterward can take the graduation exam for 1 course.

  1. Can I take makeup exams for all the failed courses?

Yes. The condition for being able to take the makeup exam is to meet the conditions for taking the end-of-semester exam.

  1. Can I take the makeup exam for a course I passed in the final exam?

Yes, you can. To take the makeup exam for a course passed in the end-of-semester exams (except for the DC letter grade), you need to apply to the Directorate of Student Affairs with a petition.

  1. I didn't get the grade I expected from the exam. What can I do?

You can apply to your head of the department within three business days following the announcement of the grade for the relevant exam.

  1. I couldn't attend the final exam. Can I take the makeup exam?

Yes, you can.

  1. Can I enter the exam room with a mobile phone?

No, you cannot. If a student is found to have entered the exam room with a mobile phone, the exam is considered invalid, and the student is deemed to have received zero for that exam. Additionally, a disciplinary investigation is initiated.

  1. The exams held in my faculty overlapped with the exams I took separately (AÖF, ALES, etc.). What can I do?

Only for the mid-term exam can you request the right to a makeup exam by applying to your department with the entrance document for your separate exam.

  1. Where can I access the exam rules?

You can access them on the faculty's website.

  1. Can I take the graduation exam for a course I have never taken before?

No, you cannot.

  1. What document do I need to bring with me to take the exam?

Valid student ID card (issued for the current academic year) or,

A student certificate with a photo obtained from the Student Affairs Directorate or,

Student certificate obtained from e-Government (along with a valid identity card, driver's license, or passport).

  1. I got a health report on the day of my exam. Can I take the exams for my other courses on the day(s) I am on sick leave?

No, you cannot. Students who take exams while on sick leave are not evaluated, and they are considered to have received zero from that exam.

  1. Where will I take my exams?

Your exam room is announced 15 minutes before the exam time on the screens at the student canteen and the student entrance on the ground floor. Also, you must sit in the seat number on the lists posted on the class doors.

INTERNSHIP, TRANSFERS, EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

  1. I want to do an optional internship. What should I do?

You can apply via the T.C. Presidency Human Resources Office Career Gate.

You can apply by finding an internship place yourself and applying through BYS. (For information on insurance payments, first contact the Directorate of Health, Culture, and Sports)

  1. I want to experience overseas during my undergraduate education. What can I do?

You can check the web page of Karadeniz Technical University Office of International Relations (https://www.ktu.edu.tr/ofinaf) or apply to the relevant unit during student consultation hours. (Faculty of Science, Ground Floor).

  1. I want to study at another university in Türkiye during my undergraduate education. What can I do?

You can check the Karadeniz Technical University Farabi Exchange Program page.

  1. How can I make a transfer to another university, and what are the conditions?

You need to apply within the specified period in the academic calendar. For application conditions, you can check the Directive for Karadeniz Technical University Transfer and the web page of the Directorate of Student Affairs.

  1. I came to the Faculty with a vertical transfer. In which year will I start?

The class where students will start is determined based on the courses agreed upon by the department's adaptation committees and the courses for which exemption is granted.

  1. I want to do a double major or minor. What should I do?

In our faculty, there are double major and minor programs in the Economics and Business Administration departments. Students from other departments can apply for a double major or minor in these two departments within the specified period in the academic calendar.

  1. Where can I obtain approved course content?

You can obtain them from the department's website.

 

ACADEMIC ADVISING

  1. How can I find out who my academic advisor is?

You can view it on your BYS page.

  1. What topics can I consult with my academic advisor?

You can consult your advisor on course selection and registration (new registration, renewal), exchange programs, internship opportunities, and guidance on career planning.

  1. How can I contact my academic advisor or other professors?

You can visit them during office hours at the doors of the faculty members' offices or contact them via email.

OTHER

  1. Where can I get my campus card?

You need to apply for a campus card at https://kampuskart.ktu.edu.tr/User/Login. You can log in with your Turkish ID number and BYS password.

  1. Will the disciplinary penalty I received during my undergraduate education hinder me from getting a job in the future?

In the public sector, disciplinary penalties received are taken into account. Some private sector enterprises may also request disciplinary information.

  1. I am a disabled student. Is there any staff available to assist me in classes or exams?

There is a designated staff for disabled students who will be your contact point in the faculty. They will assist you in accessing classes. Special exam papers with larger fonts, readers, and sign language interpreters can be assigned upon request for exams.

  1. I want to freeze my registration. What can I do?

You need to submit a petition within one month from the start date of the academic semester, providing evidence for the excuse on which your application is based. There is no restriction on the application period for military service, health board reports, and natural disaster excuses. The supporting document must be issued by an official/private institution.

  1. How can I access the academic calendar?

You can find it on the website of the Directorate of Student Affairs.

  1. Where can I learn about student clubs I can join?

You can find information about all student clubs within KTu on the website of the Directorate of Health, Culture, and Sports.

  1. I couldn't finish my school, can I get an associate's degree diploma?

Students who have been successful in all the courses in the first four semesters and whose weighted average grade for these courses is 2.00 are awarded an associate's degree diploma if they wish to leave the program.

  1. How can I terminate my relationship with the university?

You can do it through the "termination of the relationship" section on bys.ktu.edu.tr. The termination process will be completed after approval by the Directorate of Student Affairs.

  1. Where can I find information on how the relative grading system is applied?

The success grade is calculated within the framework of the Principles and Procedures Determined by the Senate Regarding the Evaluation of the Success Grade in Associate and Undergraduate Programs at Karadeniz Technical University.

  1. My average grade in the course is above the class average, but I failed the course. Why?

According to the principles of the relative grading system, your T grade, calculated for determining the passing grade, is taken into account. Therefore, you may fail the course even if your grade is above the class average. For detailed information, you can refer to the Principles and Procedures Determined by the Senate Regarding the Evaluation of the Success Grade.

  1. Where can I get my student certificate?

You can get it from the document office at KTU Directorate of Student Affairs or through e-government.
