About Us

According to the regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 08.09.1975 and put into effect, it was deemed appropriate and accepted by the Senate of Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) to conduct Higher Education within the structure of the Faculty of Forestry at KTU as a department in the field of Landscape Architecture. "Accordingly, students will be admitted to this newly established 3rd department of the Faculty starting from the 1976-1977 academic year." However, approximately 13 years after this date, the Department of Landscape Architecture started its education within the Faculty of Forestry at KTU in the 1990-1991 academic year. It graduated its first students with the title of Landscape Architect in 1994, upon completion of the four-year undergraduate program.

The Department of Landscape Architecture at KTU is the first department established within the scope of a technical university in Türkiye, and this fact has been an influential factor in shaping the identity of the department. Although it was not established within the Faculty of Architecture, starting education within a 'Technical University' Campus, which also includes the Department of Architecture, has captured a new and different line for our country; locating on a campus has facilitated the department to easily receive support from other faculties and departments, especially from the Faculty of Architecture.

Today, the educational approach supported by various fields such as Architecture, Forestry Engineering, Forest Industry Engineering Departments, and the Faculty of Fine Arts continues. The department consists of Divisions of Landscape Planning and Design, Plant Material and Propagation Techniques, and Landscape Techniques.

Study

Our Mission:

Our mission is to educate landscape architects and academics who are capable of rational, contemporary, and artistic design or planning functions tailored to specific user needs, utilizing knowledge equipped with scientific and technical expertise, and leveraging all the possibilities of technology while aiming to protect, enhance, and transmit the environment, the source of life for all living beings, primarily humans, to future generations. These professionals will be trained to research, question, and innovate.

Our Vision:

Our greatest goal is to educate academics and landscape architects who can grasp the changing and evolving new face of the world and adapt to developments.

In our educational philosophy, the definition of a landscape architect is one who is equipped with both local and contemporary, universal knowledge, who investigates and questions, knows how to use all the possibilities of technology, loves, and respects the profession.

Our department's most important philosophy in research, education, and teaching is our strong desire to strengthen all international connections related to landscape architecture in order to increase the quality of education, conduct joint research with our contemporaries, and contribute to the education and teaching of our academics and students. This will make us a respected member of these institutions.

Students

Our students establish social clubs such as KTU PEM Student Club to maintain communication with international and national professional organizations and organize events.
