  • 1. Where can he work after graduation?

Today, metallurgical and materials engineering is a multidisciplinary science and technology branch spread over the fields of chemistry, machinery, construction, aerospace, electronics, environment and medicine. Therefore, graduating from our department offers you a wide range of job opportunities.

Those who complete this program receive the title of "Metallurgical and Materials Engineer". Metallurgical and material engineers can work in public or private sector organizations operating in the following industries, as well as have the opportunity to establish their own business.

  • 2. Is the DC grade a passing grade?

In order for students to be successful in the courses in which they have received a DC grade, their grade point average in that semester must be 2.00 and above.

  • 3. What should my grade point average be to graduate?

Students with a GPA less than 2.00 cannot graduate. If the GPA is below 2.00, it is necessary to take the courses with a DC grade again and achieve at least a CC grade in order to graduate.

  • 4. Is GPA important for graduate education?

The application requirement is to graduate from undergraduate education (with a minimum of 2.00). However, the results obtained from ALES, diploma grade and oral interview are calculated by taking the added values at the rates determined by the Institute of Science and the lower score limit determined by the institute must be exceeded. Therefore, having a high diploma grade is very important in order to be accepted to graduate and doctoral education. It will be in your best interest to graduate with as high an average as possible. In addition , in order to apply for doctoral education directly from the undergraduate program, a 3.00 (in 4-point system) grade point average must be achieved.

  • 5. Is it important to know English?

Knowing and documenting English has become an indispensable requirement in business life. In addition , it is necessary to pass the foreign language exam held by the university or to have a documented foreign language score (exams accepted by universities such as YDS, TOEFL) for master's degree . Otherwise, it is necessary to study a foreign language preparatory class. For doctoral education, the minimum score determined by the institutes, which is the pre-application condition, must be obtained in foreign language scores.

  • 6. How many days should I train? Can I complete my internship in one go?

The total internship (practical work) period required for the graduation of the student is 60 (sixty) working days.

Students who will do internship can do internship for at least ten (10) working days and at most forty (40) working days without a break during an internship period (within a year covering two semesters). Therefore, the internship must be completed in at least two times.

  • 7. When can I do my internship?

In order for students to start their internship, they must have received at least four semesters of education in their departments. Internships can be done during the summer break and/or during the semester break if 10 working days fit (during the periods other than the course and exam periods in the academic calendar). This rule does not apply to students who have completed their courses and are only short of internship for graduation, and students who are determined to not be required to attend all courses in a semester (at least three working days a week are free).

  • 8. Where can I do my internship?

The student can obtain the internship place from the internship places announced by the Department or in the country or abroad, which he/she has obtained as a result of his own initiatives. chooses from Public/Private institutions or organizations operating in the relevant engineering field .

The student applies to the Department Internship Committee at least one (1) week before the end of the semester, with an approved document, titled or stamped, dated and containing the name of the internship, which he /she will receive from the institution where he/she wants to do internship. The student's application is examined by the Internship Committee and if necessary, detailed information about the internship place is requested and it is decided whether the internship can be done in that institution. Students can start their internship after getting approval from the internship commission. Internships started without the approval of the internship commission are not valid.

  • 9. Are there any special conditions required for the place where I will do my internship?

Yes. Basically, internships should be carried out in two parts. The first of these is the Production Methods Internship and the second is the Forming Processes and Management Internship . In organizations; It is obligatory to have at least one Metallurgical and Materials Engineer for the Production Methods Internship, and at least one Metallurgical and Materials Engineer or Mechanical Engineer for the Forming Processes and Management Internship.

  • 10. Can I do internships on weekends?

Internships can also be done on Saturdays, with an approved document issued by the institution stating that the institution to which the internship will be held operates on weekends as well. However, internships on Sundays and public holidays are not valid.

  • 11. How is the grade point average calculated?

Grade point average is determined with the help of a statistical formula according to the grade calculation system called the relative system. For detailed information, the Procedures and Principles Determined by the Senate on the Evaluation of Success Score in Associate Degree and Undergraduate Programs of Karadeniz Technical University can be examined.

  • 12. When can I use the labs?

In order to benefit from laboratories, certain knowledge must be acquired. In this context, 3rd and 4th grade students watch and/or apply the experiments carried out within the scope of Metallurgy and Materials Laboratory I-II courses, accompanied by observation. Those who take graduation work from 4th grade students can actively benefit from laboratories in order to carry out their studies.

  • 13. In which field can I work on my graduation thesis?

You can work on any subject you want, as long as you meet and agree with the lecturer you want to study for in graduation studies.

  • 14. Can I take part in projects such as TÜBİTAK, BAP or SAN-TEZ?

TÜBİTAK provides support for undergraduate students in their graduation studies. In order to benefit from these supports and work on a project, you can carry out scientific studies under the project management of your advisor. Many curious subjects such as appropriate project codes, study area, case studies can be followed on the official website of TUBITAK.

  • 15. How many courses can I take the make-up exam?

Students who have the right to take the final exams and students who want to take the exam again for the purpose of increasing their grades (students who want to take the make-up exam to increase their grades must apply to the student affairs) can take the make-up exam. Students participating in the make-up exam; Yearly grades and the grades they get from the make-up exam are evaluated within the scope of the relevant article in the regulation, and their letter grades are calculated. Regardless of their semester grades, students must get at least 45 out of 100 from the make-up exam in order to be successful in a course. (According to the grade evaluation system, 45 may not be enough.)

  • 16. How many courses can I take the graduation resit?

Only one course can take the graduation exam. However, the absence requirement for the course must also be met.

  • 17. Are there any key lessons in the department?

In our department, there are courses that must be completed in order for some courses to be taken. These courses are considered as prerequisite courses and are given in the table below.
