‘Recent Developments in the Tool Industry and Guhring’ Conference was held.

A conference on ‘Recent Developments in the Tool Industry and Guhring’ was organised jointly by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Gühring Tool Industry. CEO of Guhring, Cengiz GÖÇMEN, Sales Manager of Guhring Mehmet BAZ, Sales and Application Engineer of Guhring Gökhan AYDÄ°LEK, faculty members of the department and many students attended the conference. The opening ceremony started with a moment of respect and the reading of the Turkish National Anthem.

The conference started with the speech of Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Aykut ÇANAKÇI.

Prof. Dr. Aykut ÇANAKÇI, Head of the Department, mentioned the importance of the conference in terms of strengthening industry-university connections and meeting on a common ground, and expressed that he was very pleased to welcome Gühring Turkey team and that he was happy to see one of his former students, Guhring Sales and Application Engineer Gökhan AYDÄ°LEK, here again.

The Place of Guhring Company in the Sector and its Close Relationship with Metallurgical Engineering were discussed.

There was a great interest in this conference where the capacity of the amphitheatre was close to 100%. During the conference, CEO Cengiz GÖÇMEN mentioned the history of Guhring Company, its place and importance in the sector, the roles they play in the projects of the companies they supply and their R&D activities and emphasised that ‘We utilise approximately 7-9% of our annual turnover only for R&D activities. In addition, important issues related to the sector such as the current position of tool bits, production methods, close relationship with metallurgy, PVD / CVD surface coatings and selection of the right steel quality were conveyed by valuable participants. Gökhan AYDÄ°LEK, a 2019 graduate of KTU Metallurgy, talked about his own career path and gave valuable advice on career planning.

Plaques were presented to the participants.

At the end of the programme, Head of the Department Prof. Dr. Aykut ÇANAKÇI, Vice Presidents of the Department Asst. Prof. Serdar ÖZKAYA and Asst. Prof. Onur GÜLER presented plaques and gifts to the valuable participants and thanked them.
