Different entry requirements may apply depending on your country of origin, nationality, bilateral agreements, and the purpose of your visit to Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) in Trabzon. Consulate/Embassy Visa: If you are not eligible for an e-visa, you may need to apply for a visa through a Turkish embassy or consulate. National ID/Passport: Citizens of countries that are part of the "European Agreement on Regulations Governing the Movement of Persons between Member States of the Council of Europe" may enter Türkiye with their national ID. Please note that if you plan to apply for a residence or work permit during your stay, entering with a valid passport is recommended for a smoother process.
Turkish citizens living abroad and holders of Mavi Kart only need a valid passport or ID card to enter Türkiye without requiring a visa or residence permit.
Staff: If you are planning to work at KTU as international staff, you are required to obtain a work visa and a residence permit prior to your arrival. If you are already in Türkiye with a valid residence permit for at least six months, you may apply for a work permit within the country without leaving. However, this does not apply to students residing in Türkiye on a student visa. For further assistance regarding your visa requirements, please contact your department at KTU.
Students: If you are an international student planning to study at KTU for more than three months, you are legally required to obtain a residence permit. This can be applied for after your arrival in Türkiye. Ensure that your passport is valid for at least 60 days beyond your intended stay.
You may need an acceptance letter to apply for your visa. This letter will be issued after your application is approved by the relevant academic department at KTU.

Having health insurance is a mandatory requirement for living in Türkiye. Without valid insurance covering your intended period of stay, you cannot apply for a residence permit. You can select one of the following health insurance options:
General Health Insurance by SGK SGK, the Turkish Social Security Institution, is the government agency responsible for providing general healthcare services in Türkiye. By paying a monthly ?minimum premium amount,? you can obtain General Health Insurance (GSS) through SGK. This insurance allows you to access state hospitals and medical centers at no cost and some private hospitals at discounted rates. Before seeking treatment, confirm whether the hospital has an agreement with SGK. For more information about the insurance coverage, visit https://www.sgk.gov.tr/.
Students must apply in person at the SGK Directorate in Trabzon within 90 days of officially registering at Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) to take advantage of the GSS.
International faculty members or staff can access SGK coverage 60 days after their employment begins. For assistance with paperwork and inquiries, please contact your department at KTU.

Karadeniz Technical University offers accommodation for incoming Erasmus+ students at the KTU Koru Student Dormitory.
As the number of rooms is limited, incoming students are strongly advised to make their application at least two months in advance of their arrival in Trabzon.
