Mobile Phone Usage

If you wish to use your mobile phone in Türkiye, you are required to officially register your phone (or any device with calling capabilities) within 120 days. This can be done either in person at a tax office or online.

Here are the steps to register your phone:

  1. Find your phone's IMEI number by dialing *#06#.
  2. Make the payment at a tax office or online at turkiye.gov.tr using a Turkish credit card, or you can pay at a recognized bank authorized for this process.
  3. Purchase a Turkish SIM card unless you already have one.
  4. Link your SIM card to your IMEI number. To do this, visit the e-government web page and search for "IMEI Kaydet". Then, click on "Bilgi Teknolojileri ve Iletisim Kurumu / Imei Kaydet" button, which will take you to a form to register your phone. You can track your registration status on the same website or call the BTK (Information Technologies and Communications) hotline at 120 for updates.
  5. Alternatively, you can buy a phone and a SIM card directly in Türkiye.

Emergency Action Plan

For any serious health emergency, police, fire services, or other urgent situations, call the national emergency helpline at 112.

This service is available 24/7 across Türkiye.

Emergency Assembly Points
Emergency assembly points are designated safe areas for individuals during major emergencies, such as floods or earthquakes. It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with your nearest assembly point ahead of time. You can find the closest emergency assembly points by entering your city, district, neighbourhood, and street on this link. The site will provide you with the location and a map of the assembly points.

Emergency Apps
Here are some helpful apps for emergencies:

  • 112 Acil Yardım Butonu (Emergency Help Button): This app connects you to national health emergency services (112) and shares your location. It requires an E-nabız password, which you can obtain through your E-Devlet profile.
  • AKUT Güvendeyim (IamSafe): Developed by the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), this app allows you to send an SMS to your emergency contacts with your location at the press of a button. The default message says "I am safe" but you can customize it. This helps notify your loved ones without clogging phone lines during disasters, ensuring emergency services can be accessed more easily. The app works in natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and fires, even if phone or internet coverage is unavailable.

Attention! Türkiye is located in an earthquake-prone zone. It is recommended to prepare an earthquake emergency kit, which should include basic supplies like water, food, medications (if applicable), and other essentials that can sustain you and your loved ones for several days in case of a major disaster.
