The Software Development Department was established within the Faculty of Science in 2024. Students who successfully complete all courses within the program graduate as Software Developers.
The department serves undergraduate students with its classrooms and laboratories in the Faculty of Science building located in the Karadeniz Technical University Kanuni Campus (Central Campus).
The Software Development Department stands out with its application-focused curriculum. This program is designed to equip students with practical skills in software development. The curriculum, equipped with up-to-date technologies and tools, provides students with the opportunity to learn the latest software development trends. Furthermore, industry collaborations and internship programs encourage students to gain real-world experience, giving graduates a competitive advantage in the business world.
Our department also offers successful students the opportunity to benefit from minor and double major programs, and organizes student exchanges through agreements with universities abroad under the Erasmus program and with universities in Turkey under the Farabi program.
Because the Software Development Department forms the foundation of advanced technology developing globally and in our country, graduates from the department have a wide range of work opportunities and a wide range of institutions they can work in. Graduates from the department can work in design, production, quality control, operations, and system security at all public and private institutions, higher education, and research institutions.

The primary goal of the software development undergraduate program is to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge and skill set in modern software development principles, methodologies, and technologies. By developing analytical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, students will be able to design and develop scalable, reliable, and user-focused software solutions for a variety of platforms and domains. The program also aims to train professional software developers who are committed to ethical values, open to continuous learning, and able to follow innovations in the industry.

Internship Program
In order to be eligible to receive a bachelor's degree, KTU Software Development students are required to complete an internship (practical work) in order to increase their practical knowledge and skills.
The total internship (practical work) period required for our students to graduate is 60 (sixty) working days. Students who wish to complete the internship can complete their mandatory internship during the summer semester following the completion of their 2nd year.With the internship program, our students can find internship opportunities in many domestic and international institutions and companies.
Exchange Programs
Student exchange programs at our university are administered by the Office of Exchange Programs. Exchange programs provide our students with the opportunity to study and complete internships both domestically and internationally. Within the Office of Exchange Programs, the following are conducted:

As a Research University, our department offers interdisciplinary research and application opportunities that will enable our students to reinforce the theoretical knowledge they acquire during their education and training in practice.
There are a total of 3 classrooms in our department, 1 of which is a computer laboratory.

Essentially, they can find a place in any industry where software is produced, developed, tested, and managed. These sectors include information technology, finance, healthcare, education, entertainment, automotive, defense, and retail. Software development graduates can work in-house at companies, for software consulting firms, or as freelancers.
Software development graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities in today's increasingly digital world. Our graduates can study in postgraduate (master's and doctoral) programs provided that they receive a passing score from the ALES exam and have sufficient knowledge of the English language.
The Software Development Department started education in 2024 and will produce its first graduates in 2028.
