APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND ADMISSION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR DOCTORAL PROGRAMS

 

GRADUATION SCORE

For application to doctoral programs with a master's degree with thesis

Minimum undergraduate graduation score is not required for application procedures.

For application to doctoral programs with a bachelor's degree

The undergraduate graduation score must be at least 3.20 according to the 4 point system or at least 81.33 according to the 100 point system.

 

PH.D. ACCEPTANCE  LETTER

Candidates who want to apply for a PhD program by meeting the minimum application requirements specified in this announcement; It is obligatory to obtain a Letter of Acceptance from a faculty member who has the necessary conditions to carry out doctoral supervision in the relevant department. The acceptance letter is uploaded to the online application system by the candidate during the application process. Even if the other application conditions are appropriate and sufficient, the applications of candidates who do not have an approved letter of acceptance will not be evaluated. The suitability of the acceptance letter submitted in the application and the competence of the candidate are evaluated by the Institute. The faculty member who approves the letter of acceptance for the doctoral candidate carries out the academic counselling of the candidate after his/her admission to the program and throughout the entire doctoral period. The faculty member issuing the Letter of Acceptance is also obliged to fulfil all the responsibilities specified in the Advisor-Student contract, which must be signed later.

 

FOREIGN LANGUAGE (ENGLISH) EXEMPTION

  • In order to apply for doctoral programs; it is compulsory to have at least 55 points (or equivalent) from YDS / YÖKDİL or a foreign language exam (Equivalents of Foreign Language Exams) accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM. Candidates whose applications to doctoral programs are accepted and placed are considered exempt from foreign language.
  • The validity period of the foreign language documents to be used for exemption (including the English Preparatory Program Exemption Examination documents of the universities) is 5 years from the date of the exam, and 2 years for equivalent documents accepted by the ÖSYM.

 

SUCCESS SCORE CALCULATION FOR DOCTORAL PROGRAMS

Success score calculation is not made for candidates applying to the doctoral program. The applications of all candidates who meet the minimum Foreign Language (English) score, graduation score for candidates who will apply to doctoral programs with a bachelor's degree and the conditions for obtaining an acceptance letter are examined by the relevant department and placement to the doctoral program is made.

Candidates applying for PhD programs are not subjected to an oral/written interview exam.

USING THE ONLINE APPLICATION SYSTEM

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 1:

Pre-Application

  • The "Pre-Application" screen in the application system opens. On this screen, the required data is entered and the "Pre-Application Confirm and Continue" button is pressed. After the approval process, KTU IT Department will send a message to the e-mail address specified by the candidate in the pre-application, confirming that the pre-application has been received, and the "Application Documents Upload Screen" which is the 2nd Stage. The password (verification code) and connection link to be used to log in to the system will be sent.
  • Documents required for application "Application Documents Upload Screen" uploaded to the application system.
  • After the suitability and adequacy of the documents uploaded to the system such as passport, Turkish language proficiency (TÖMER) certificate, diploma, transcript, foreign language certificate of international candidates are checked by the Graduate School, appropriate applications are approved, inappropriate applications are rejected by writing the reason. When the approval/rejection process of the application process is finalized by the Institute, an automatic message indicating the approval/rejection status is sent to the e-mail address used by the candidate in the application. Applications rejected due to missing documents can be revised before the end of the application calendar by re- entering the system with the same login information. In this case, the application eligibility is re-checked by the Institute and the approval/rejection process is carried out.
  • Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate from Turkish Language Teaching Centre (TÖMER) is required at least at Intermediate 2 - Intermediate 1-B level. The applications of foreign applicants who do not have a Turkish language proficiency (TÖMER) certificate are approved, but these applicants are subjected to an Exemption Exam to be administered by KTU TÖMER (Turkish Language Teaching Centre). Candidates who get enough points from this exam are exempted from the Turkish language preparatory class. Candidates who do not get the sufficient score are admitted to the Turkish language preparatory program.

Limit on the Number of Graduate Programs to Apply

  • Candidates can apply to only one of the graduate programmes for which they meet the application requirements. The most recent application of candidates who make more than one application is accepted as valid by the system.

 

Validity Periods of Documents

  • The validity period of YDS / YÖKDİL certificates is 5 (five) years from the date of issue.

The applications of those who have exceeded this period in a foreign language or those who do not have a certificate are not accepted.

 

Application Validity Principle

The applications of the candidates who make a preference error or make false statements are invalid and cancelled by the system. During the use of the online application system, records of all transactions (login/add/remove/change etc.) made by the candidates are saved on the server.

THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS WILL BE UPLOADED TO THE SYSTEM AS SEPARATE FILES IN "PDF" FORMAT.

  • Turkish language proficiency certificate (TÖMER)

In order to be exempt from the Turkish language preparatory program, a Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate from the Turkish Language Teaching Centre (TÖMER) is required at a minimum of Intermediate 2 - Intermediate 1-B level. The applications of international applicants who do not have a Turkish language proficiency (TÖMER) certificate are approved, but these applicants are subjected to an Exemption Exam to be administered by KTU TÖMER (Turkish Language Teaching Centre). Candidates who get enough points from this exam are exempted from the Turkish language preparatory class. Candidates who do not get the sufficient score are taken to the Turkish language preparatory program.

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Diplomas and Transcripts and their certified Turkish translations
  • In order to apply for a PhD program, it is compulsory to have at least 55 points from YDS, YÖKDİL (English) exams or an equivalent score from an exam accepted as equivalent. Candidates whose applications to doctoral programs are accepted and placed are exempt from foreign language,
  • Equivalence certificate of the diploma obtained from universities abroad and Turkish translation of the transcript
  • Passport photocopy
  • For control purposes, the originals of the documents uploaded to the online system may be requested from the students. For this reason; when the semester starts, the originals of the specified documents must be with the students.

In case of incomplete file upload, registration is not accepted.

Candidates who will apply to graduate programmes from outside the field can find out whether their field of graduation is suitable for application from the list of "KTU - Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences - Programmes that constitute the basis for application to graduate programs". For the master's and doctoral programmes to be applied, the status of being in or out of the field is determined according to the undergraduate graduation field.

REQUIREMENT FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE (ENGLISH)

There is a compulsory English preparatory class for candidates of master's programs with thesis who have not obtained the minimum scores specified below from YDS / YÖKDİL or a foreign language exam accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM (Equivalencies of Foreign Language Exams).

  • The validity period of the foreign language documents to be used for exemption (including the English Preparatory Program Exemption Examination documents of the universities) is 5 years from the date of the exam, and 2 years for equivalent documents accepted by the OSYM.
  • Applicants who do not have an exemption certificate can take the Placement and Exemption exams to be held by KTU School of Foreign Languages. Those who are not successful must continue the English Preparatory Program.

 

EVALUATION OF MASTER'S DEGREE APPLICATION

Application documents uploaded by the applicants to the online application system (CV, passport, undergraduate diploma, undergraduate transcript, Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate (TÖMER), Foreign language (English) certificate) It is checked by the Institute and examined whether there is a deficiency in the application made by the candidate to the relevant department. Incorrect applications or applications with missing documents are not approved and returned to the candidate. Applications approved by the Graduate School are directed to the Graduate Applicants Evaluation Commission of the relevant department. The applicants' application documents are evaluated by the commission in the department and the "Main" and "Substitute" placement list is created according to the quota determined for international students.

Applicants applying for Master's programs are not subjected to an oral/written interview exam.

Placement

/ Exemption Exams

  • There is a compulsory English preparatory class for master's programs with thesis. In order to be exempt from the English preparatory class, a score of 50 points from YDS or YÖKDİL, or 80 points or equivalent score from an exam accepted as equivalent must be obtained for master's programs that teaching entirely in English.
  • Students who do not have an English exemption certificate can take the placement and exemption exams conducted by KTU School of Foreign Languages.
  • Newly enrolled graduate students first take the Placement Examination. Only the students who get a valid grade (B1 level) in the Placement Exam can participate in the Exemption Exam. The list of students who will take the Exemption Examination is announced in the "ANNOUNCEMENTS" section of the School of Foreign Languages website after the Placement Examination.
  • If students who take the Placement Examination get a grade below the grade threshold (B1 level) determined in the relevant legislation, they are placed directly into an appropriate level class in the preparatory class without taking the exemption exam.
  • The placement exam does not provide exemption from the preparatory class. Students who do not take the placement exam are not taken to the exemption exam.
  • Newly enrolled students do not need to apply to the School of Foreign Languages for registration if they do not take the Placement and Exemption exams. These students are placed in English preparatory classes at A1 Level.

Foreign Language (English) Placement Examination: 10 September 2024,

  • Foreign Language (English) Exemption Exam will be held on 11 September 2024. The details of the places and times of these exams should be followed on the web page of the School of Foreign Languages (https://ktu.edu.tr/ydyo).

In order to be exempt from English preparatory class in programs teaching entirely in English, candidates must obtain a minimum score of 80 from YDS/YÖKDİL or an equivalent score from an exam accepted by the ÖSYM.

In case of incomplete file upload, registration is not accepted.
