A Panel on the Çanakkale Victory Held at Our University

In commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory, the "Glorious Resistance: The Last Fortress Çanakkale" Panel was organized by KTU Institute of Black Sea Studies. The event, held at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center, Fahri Kuran Hall, attracted great interest from academics, administrative staff, and students. 

The panel program began with a moment of silence and the recitation of the National Anthem, followed by the video titled "The Legacy Carried from 1915 to Today." After the video, opening speeches were delivered. Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ali TEMİZ and Head of the Department of Black Sea Studies Assoc. Prof. Dr. Volkan AKSOY emphasized the historical significance of the Çanakkale Victory and its impact on national consciousness. 

“Çanakkale is a Symbol of Our Nation’s Determination and Sacrifice” 

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ali TEMİZ, who greeted the participants on behalf of Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, highlighted the significance of the Çanakkale Victory in his opening speech: "We commemorate with gratitude our heroic martyrs who made Çanakkale impassable. As a nation, we celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory with great pride and enthusiasm. The Çanakkale War is not only a military victory but also an epic that embodies sacrifice, courage, and patriotism. This fierce battle, fought hand-to-hand, stands as a rare example of heroism in world war history." 

Welcoming participants to the panel with the words, "Welcome to the ‘Glorious Resistance: The Last Fortress Çanakkale’ Panel, organized on the occasion of the 110th Anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Volkan AKSOY expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to organizing the event. He also provided insights into the academic work of the Institute of Black Sea Studies, emphasizing that since 2009, the institute has been organizing scientific events on various political, economic, historical, literary, social, and cultural aspects of the Black Sea Basin. 

Academic Reflections on Çanakkale 

The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Süleyman ERKAN. The session featured distinguished scholars: 

- Prof. Dr. Cezmi ERASLAN (Istanbul University) presented "The Front That Made Anatolia a Homeland: From the Ottoman Empire to the Republic - Çanakkale." 

- Asst. Prof. Dr. Zekeriya TÜRKMEN (Istanbul 29 Mayıs University) delivered a presentation on "An Analysis of the Naval and Land Battles of Çanakkale." 

- Prof. Dr. İsmail KÖSE, Director of the Institute of Black Sea Studies, shared insights with his presentation titled "The Last Fortress Çanakkale." 

These expert academics provided in-depth analyses of the military, historical, and societal dimensions of the Çanakkale War. 

Following the presentations, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the speakers. The event concluded with a visit to the photography exhibition titled "The Story of an Epic," curated by Lecturer Şuayıp ŞEYİHOĞLU from the Department of Fine Arts.
