KTU Academics Return from the 8th National Antarctic Science Expedition

Under the auspices of the Presidency and with the support from the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, our academics who participated in the "8th National Antarctic Science Expedition," coordinated by TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute, have returned to Türkiye. Prof. Dr. Ersan BAŞAR, a faculty member of the Department of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University, led the expedition and managed the project. Dr. Murat ÖZKAPTAN from KTU Department of Geophysical Engineering also participated as a project executive in the 8th National Antarctic Science Expedition led by Prof. Dr. Ersan BAŞAR. During the expedition, Prof. Dr. Ersan BAŞAR led the research on " Distribution and Fingerprint Analysis of Dissolved Dispersed Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Antarctic Peninsula Seawater," while Dr. Murat ÖZKAPTAN conducted the study titled "Paleomagnetism of Horseshoe Island: Determination of Tectonic and Paleomagnetism Changes, Marguerite Bay, Antarctica."

A total of 24 researchers, including 20 Turks and 4 internationals, participated in scientific studies during the expedition.
