The 109th Anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory Was Commemorated at KTU

In our university, on the occasion of the 109th anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory, a commemoration program for the Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs was organized by the Faculty of Literature and the Department of History at Karadeniz Technical University on March 18th. Prominent administrative, academic, and military figures of the province and the students attended the program.

The program, which began with a moment of silence and the recitation of the National Anthem, featured a screening of the documentary titled "Great Victory Great Pride." Following the documentary screening, the Rector of our University, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, delivered the opening speech. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Çuvalcı expressed that the Çanakkale War is a symbol of the nation's struggle for independence and freedom, filled with tales of heroism. He stated, "109 years ago, the name Çanakkale was written as an epic of a nation's courage and determination against imperialist powers seeking to occupy our lands. On that day, our glorious army, despite all odds, wrote a heroic saga in history with its determination and struggle." Continuing his remarks by recounting the epic stories of heroes of the Çanakkale Victory such as Seyit Onbaşı and Kınalı Hasan, our Rector drew attention to the perseverance, courage, and patriotism demonstrated during the war. He concluded his speech by reciting Mehmet Akif's poem "To the Çanakkale Martyrs."

The Çanakkale Victory and Commemoration of Martyrs Program continued with a panel session organized by the History Department of KTU Faculty of Literature, which examined the scientific, social, and political aspects of the Çanakkale Victory. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Hikmet Öksüz, a faculty member at the KTU Department of History, the panel program featured the following topics: "The Process Leading to World War I: Great Powers" presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Çelik, "Beyond the Sea Lies the Homeland: The Naval Front in the Çanakkale Battles" discussed by Asst. Prof. Dr. İhsan Erdinçli, and "Çanakkale Trenches: The Great Defense" presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Edip Öncü.

The program concluded after the Governor, Aziz YILDIRIM, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the panelists.
