Emphasis on the Importance of Sports
Addressing the participants at the meeting, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, expressed his pleasure in hosting the Universities Coordination Meeting. Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI highlighted the importance of directing people towards sports for them to become healthier individuals, stating, "As an academician who also engages in sports, I value sporting activities. I believe that while focusing on academic achievements, we sometimes neglect sports for our students. Sport is an activity that can primarily protect everyone from bad habits. My greatest desire is for students to engage in sports and music while continuing their lives academically. One keeps the body dynamic while the other refreshes the soul. In this regard, as higher education institutions, we should not neglect sports, especially, and provide full support to our youth in this regard.
Sports as a Valuable Promotion Tool
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, highlighted the significant role of sports in increasing the promotion of countries and universities. He stated, "As you know, in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Türkiye achieved a great record by winning a total of 13 medals, including 2 gold, 2 silver, and 9 bronze, among 11,000 athletes. Our Women's Volleyball Team also brought us great pride as World Champions. In individual sports, we need to increase the number of successful young individuals like Mete GAZOZ, Busenaz SÜRMENELİ, and Buse Naz ÇAKIROĞLU. We are working to repair and renew our sports facilities at the university. We ensure that the sports halls remain open for our students for extended periods."
'University Support is Crucial'
Following our Rector, University Sports Federation President, Prof. Dr. Mehmet GÜNAY, gave a speech, presenting an overview of the activities and achievements under the Federation's umbrella.
